After the election in 2003, I posted the following:
quote:Even though I still strongly feel that redevelopment has taken way too long, based on the results yesterday, we all need to now reset our expectations. Based on postings here by Mark, the new baseline for expectations is: Arts Center - opening Summer 2005 Beifus - opening Summer 2005 Market - opening Fall 2005
NOW, after THIS election in 2005, based on recent posts and articles we have to reset our expectations AGAIN to: Arts Center - opening Fall 2006? Beifus - opening Summer 2007 Market - opening Christmas 2005? Let's hope there are NO FURTHER DELAYS.

A Mercedes dealer turned amateur developer who owns a big hole in the ground on South Orange Avenue...not beloved around town, except perhaps by his friends at Village Hall. |

MHD - or anybody else, is the current construction at the Baird Center limited to a redo of the basketball court, or does it include other work as well? |

Antonia, "Beifus", in addition to what Susan1014 said, is what we refer the empty lot across from Bunny's as (not to be confused with the empty lot behind Bunny's). It is scheduled to be a new retail/residential project, but since the old building was torn down 2 years ago, there has been delay after delay. It is widely expected that the lot will simply be utilized as a Parking Lot for the next 18 months. Dan - no idea...sorry. |

Are they going to add an ADA access at that area on the side, and remove the horrible ramp at the front????? (I hope) That would be a great use of taxpayer' money. |

Daniel: Not just the basketball courts. There will be a real attempt to make the Baird an arts destination - with new and improved signs that will actually announce not only the Baird but the various artistic pursuits housed within, what is currently playing there and what events are scheduled for the near future so people can plan their schedules to be able to attend, new floors inside, new artwork to make the bland entrance halls more inviting, etc. |

I for one am extremely ecstatic that there is finally going to be a facility in South Orange where basketball can be played without worrying about breaking an ankle on the cracked, warped, playing surface, where there may finally be some baskets with rims that are not bent or rickety. Its a absolute treat. Real basketball courts. Wow. |
