I saw in the Star Ledger, that Montclair has now an "official logo" http://www.nj.com/news/ledger/essex/index.ssf?/base/news-0/1116306967252740.xml With that in mind, maybe South Orange needs one, as well. After the election and last night's shenanigans, I guess this might be appropriate (Dave or Soda...feel free to try YOUR design skills, as well)

ha! By the way, the Star Ledger link doesn't have a picture of the new Montclair logo. |

The critique 1) Color choice: Hey... it's Halloween all year long! (the mind is very associative with colors) 2) Freud was involved on some level 3) Is that a person standing on his head? 4) Is it a light bulb? (don't use elements that aren't readily identifiable) 5) Typography is not good. The 't' needs a higher ascender for one thing; or make the "M" lowercase. Final score: 70/100

Dave, it's an eagle and flag on a pole that is very symbolic of the town in the beloved and popular Edgemont Park. Montclair is my hometown and I happen to like it. Your critique about the typeset is right on the money though... |

not impressed. I definately agree with Dave's #2 - that's the first thing I thought when I saw it. |

MHD: Surely you can come up with a positive image as a logo for S. Orange. |

and the oddly tilted characters are supposed to be? I thought the "L" was our own lovely "South Orange Pole" -- model of which is in front of SOMS!

It's the war memorial in Edgemont Park, not a flagpole. |

Lizziecat is onto something. As we conceive of a logo for South Orange, we mustn't forget or ties to the citrus industry. |

After Dave mentioned halloween because of the orange circle (moon or sun?) the finial on the monument looks an awful lot like a witch on a broom to me. But then I have always been a little odd.... |

For a logo: how about a stolen car with no headlights. Or a town mascot: a drunken college student. Just kidding. |

How about a town slogan: South Orange - like Newark, but without the political patronage, empty lots, corruption, lifetime appointments and taxpayer boondoggles. uh...nevermind. |
