Newstead,NJ From NYC: Rt 280 W. to West Orange/Verona exit. Pleasant Valley way make left off ramp. Proceed approx. 3 miles through South Mountain Reservation. Make left onto South Orange Ave. After scenic S-turns make first left past gilded gates on Glenview Ave. Close to shopping in nearby Livingston & Millburn. I personally don't want the town's name changed. Too much history to throw away. With that, here are some more suggestions. East Short Hills Essex (hey, if Union can be named after the county so can Essex) Brick City West Columbia |

So Antonina, "the only time south orange resembles newark is when certain newark residents come to ward place and the SHU area to rob us!" Their just getting in on the action. SHU has been robbing the town for years. |

Uhuru: see, I dont think it is. If I wanted to generalize and make a blanket statement then I would have said ALL newark residents. speaking of overgeneralized statements- Grspring, in what ways has SHU robbed you? |

I know we want the redevelopment to happen quickly. I work for a real-estate development and management company. I know that it takes time to get things going on the devilment end. When you go to redevelop a site you do not know all that is there. There may be things there like environmental hazard that must be cleaned up before you are allowed to build on the site. You have to get a permittee to build on the site. Inspectors have to come and make sure it is safe to build on the site. You do not want go in and build on a site if you do not know if the site can hold up the building you want to build there. Please we all must remember that South Orange want to build the safest buildings for it's residents. It's going to take some time, but the end result will be safe buildings that we all can be very proud of. |

I guess that's why communication is important...and to be able to trust in the, er, trustees to communicate accurately what's going on. |

How about East Mountain since South Orange and Maplewood sit directly east of the mountain. I don't remember going up a hill when I travel to Orange. |

Other name: Independence What we need is a revolution from the lack of progress. Then we can rename SOPAC to IPAC. But we will have to get Steve Jobs' approval first. |

Debra, 7 YEARS to do those things???? Red, Speaking of SOPAC, I recently wondered if SOPAC really is such a good marketing name considering OSPAC already exists right in neighboring West Orange. Sounds like a real recipe for confusion. Then again, I'm sure Calabrese will eventually rename it Calabrese Arts Center (CAC). Maybe a better name would be Calabrese Recital Arts Center Klotch - CRACK |

Hopefully SOPAC will market better than Schindler...if not for an occasional flyer in a window, I never would have even known the OSPAC existed. |

Yet we've been begging for the fundamentals on SOPAC for years: Budget, site plan, taxpayer impact. West Orange accomplished OSPAC during the renegotiated renegotiations of SOPAC - 2003. Please. Spare me. |

I don't think that OSPAC and SOPAC should have trouble coexisting, although we may well need to work to avoid acronym confusion. For those of you who don't know, SOPAC and OSPAC seem to have very different goals. OSPAC is an outdoor amphitheater, operating June-Sept, with a focus on low cost cultural entertainment (most shows have a suggested donation of $5). Obviously they also do not cast a very wide advertising net. SOPAC will be year round, and seems to aspire to be more like a BergenPAC, with more name-brand entertainment. Here's hoping we can make it work. |
