I just read the long article in the News Record about how Pulte has violated AGAIN the ban against rock crushing in the Quarry. Why do those people continue to defy the town? What kind of fines are being levied against them by the town? Now I see why the police and Village acted so quickly when additional violations were reported about the trucks earlier this week. I hate to say "I told you so", but Pulte has made zero attempt to be a good neighbor since they first came to town. They really do suck! |

I hadn't paid close attention regarding this matter until I heard a homeowner who spoke at Monday's BoT meeting regarding the health issues and annoyances regarding the crushing. Mr. Gill was moving in his address and has obviously reached his limit with the amount of crap he can take from Pulte and the responses received in the past. |

To think it brought the poor guy nearly to tears, what else do we do wrong to our neighbors? How many times does it take to listen? Hopefully, no more!

I'm so glad I was unable to attend. I'm a woman on the edge emotionally and probably would have been in tears myself. And this is based purely on these descriptions; I did not see the meeting. To Mr. Gill and all neighboring homeowners: you have my complete and total support regarding petitions or any other attention-getting methods you may wish to pursue. |

In yesterday's News Record it said "construction has been halted". This morning it was business as usual in the Pulte Pit. So, what fines were imposed and what guarantees do the residents have that Pulte will not continue to disregard the Village? |

As others have said many times, has anyone called the town on this to find out what is going on? Was the Snooze Wrecker wrong, or did Pulte pay a fine and stop violating their agreement? |

I wonder if Bill has any problem with the noise and shaking? He sits right on top of it. Someone should bring that up at the next BOT meeting. |

I was teaching one day and heard a loud boom and felt the vibrations ---thought something had hit the Annex...Had to quickly calm some of my students by telling them the school was okay. Wonder what the effects of the blasting and rock crushing are on the students or the school building? (personal comments based on personal observation -- not to be construed as an official district/school comment or question) |

Once again the dump trucks are rolling up Mayhew Drive. I notified Mr. Gross and SOPD. Hopefully they will put an end to it (again). They have been very responsive in the past. All of this in light of a fatal dump truck accident yesterday in Hawthorne, NJ. |

Doesn't the State regulate mining? Maybe someone could complain to the appropriate agency as well as the EPA. There's lots of ways to get action regarding illegal mining. Clearly the Village doesn't have any teeth. |

The SOPD has done a great job of responding when complaints are raised. But, I guess when you show desperation by subsidizing a developer with $1.2 million (as the Village did with Pulte), they wisely assume they can do whatever they want. I can only imagine the violations that will occur with Beifus after all the "last chances" the Village has already given him.

Are dumptrucks not allowed on Mayhew? then where? (up Tillou?). I was wondering whether trucks were on Harding -- and there fore the "speed monitor" (there *has* got to be a "real" name for it!) was up last week. I believe that in any construction there are likely to be some infractions or violations, and particularly one the size of this development. Gotta call them on it -- over and over again. Pete

Maybe the next time a quarry is developed in South Orange, the Planning Board won't permit blasting so as to allow the developer to reduce the buffer. |

I still don't understand WHY it was alright for the quarry to operation as a quarry all the years it did, and now all of a sudden it's such a big deal? |

not sure, but maybe it was an operational quarry BEFORE the original homes were built? |

Regardless of when the quarry was operational, the fact is that "quarrying" releases materials into the air that are detrimental to people's health. There is no reason why people who live near the development should be subjected to a health threat. Its even more absurb, because as I understand the discussion, Pulte was either stopped and/or agreed to stop this type of use in the past. It appears to be a matter of cost -- cheaper to do it on site. Perhaps their bottom line on this development will suffer a bit -- Pete

Get over it...That development is going to give you all a windfall when you sell your homes...Your property values are skyrocketing as each one of those "luxury" condos are sold. If its such a concern call the Feds or State EPA and ask them to look into it. You obviously have to know that the town is in with Pulte because of the breaks and consistant overlooking of the rules.

Hard to "get over" health concerns that could occur. This is a little bit more serious than worrying about students leaving a beer can in your yard...which some never seem to "get over." |

This morning I noticed a new swingset in the "yard" of one of new houses on Harding, right next to the entrance to the Pulte Pit, which seems to have a perpetual cloud of construction dust hanging over it. With all the talk of health concerns, silica dust, etc, I wonder if anyone from Pulte or the town has informed this person of the potential risks to them and/or their children. |
