In a thread a while ago, one reason given for limiting overnight parking on the street was so that street sweepers would have access to the curb; however, when was the last time anyone has seen a street sweeper? Do they only service the high rent district? Irvington Ave. and its tributaries could use some help in this area... |

Street sweeper is out every morning 6 days a week. I see him as early as 5:30am some days. I beleive they rotate the route around town and do all streets every week. |

I see the street sweeper in my neighborhood (near Orange) regularly when I am walking to the train station, but I take an early train. |

The Idea behind the no parking 2am to 6am is the same as almost every other town in NJ. So the police can tell the cars that do and do not belong in the area. If that works or not is open to debate. |

One reason, not THE reason... I'm not a big fan of the current parking ordinances, but we've already beat that horse beyond recognition. |

See what happens to this town if they allowed overnight parking... Any street that borders Newark & Orange will become a parking lot... Look at Randolph Place, why are we catering to non tax payers w/ free parking, but attacking tax payers with tickets on other streets? |

old and gray, yea i am with you on randolph place, the residents of 65 radolph are not south orange residents but somehow the parkin authority and police department have recieved orders to not ticket for overnight parking on randolph place which i do not understand. they should be told to complain to orange where their tax money goes and take their cars off our streets or pay the $46 fine |

In the event that a resident does not have enough room in their driveway, are they really allowed to 'call in' the car on the street to SOPD? I heard you were able to do that a while ago, but does that still stand legitimate?

You can call in your car to the SOPD if you need to park it on the street overnight as long as you call before 2am of that same night. I believe that there is a limit on the number of nights your car can be parked on the street overnight, although I'm not sure what this limit is. I think this ordinance is only to be used for unexpected reasons, not as a long-term alternative to finding/paying for legal overnight parking in SO/Maplewood. |

So can me and my wife alternate nites we call our cars in...That is what my young college attending neigbors advised me to do. He says: "No one says no at the police department...we just alternate what street or lot it is in..." So I assume i can stop paying 100 a month for two parking spaces to my landlord and use this method for free on street parking?

I've been told "no" before -so I guess it depends on the person answering. I've also been given a ticket for having a car overhang the driveway onto the sidewalk in an attempt to avoid putting it in the street overnight(after being told No). After allowing the policy to give me agita for several years, I have decided to just suck it up and live with the fact that its potentially going to cost me when my out of town family comes to visit. In an effort to get rid of an errant deer family before deer or people become roadkill in the middle of Prospect st. we called the police as there is no number listed number for animal control. Apparently there is nothing anyone can do regarding deer. Husband remarked that if deer were sitting by curb between 2 and 6 the situation would be taken care of immediatly. |

At least one apartment at 65 Randolph Place is in South Orange; isn't it? Why won't the South Orange Police ticket the cars if they're parked in South Orange over night? I think years ago it was said the residents of the apartments don't have a parking lot. If that's the case, why should it be a problem of the taxpayers of South Orange? Plenty of people in town don't have enough space in their driveway for all their cars.
