I honestly hate it when "race" gets brought up into these discussions.

It doesn't matter if the kids are black, white, hispanic, asian, etc. etc. etc.

The problem is when they become disrespectful and bully younger children. A bigger problem is when parents/nanny's/etc. don't do their part to correct the problem and let the behavior continue.

Guess what? 10 years ago my parents weren't monitoring me when I was going downtown and hanging out with my friends (both black and white). We certainly have a heck of a lot of "mature" pre-teens and it's a shame that a handful will ruin it for the responsible kids at the parks, rec centers, etc.

Not quite sure how you rectify the problem though. I've always been fond of "character classes" in elementary and middle schools as a part of curriculum.

Quint- I have had just about enough of your race baiting. Try to be constructive here. I noticed you are new to this forum, we (MOLers) don't take too kindly to your seperatist type comments. If the children are indeed black,afro-american,haitian,visigoth then so be it. Defending RUDE & OBNOXIOUS BEHAVIOR is colour blind & WRONG!

Quint,

If people talk about middle school bullies, and the first thing that comes to your mind is that it is a race issue, maybe the problem is with your thinking.

Quint not only is a racist, he's a hypocritical, pseudo-conservative who's living in his own time warp. His 10-day absence from MOL probably is because he was attending a klan rally in the Pinelands.

Judging from his other posts, he's all about lower taxes, less government, and states rights over the heavy hand of Federal government, except when it comes to imposing his conservative views on everyone else's lifestyle. Please feel free to go back into your rabbit hole.

Yes, of course it shouldn't matter if the kids are black or white. But implying that it has no bearing on how the offended party reacts is naive.

I don't know what color anyone was in this arrangement. But there are plenty of people in our town who would be far more nervous/upset/scared if it were a group of unruly black kids than they would if it were a bunch of white kids with polo shirts and upturned collars.

I would venture to say there are plenty of white folks in town who would be extremely apprehensive about approaching a group of misbehaving black kids, but wouldn't hesitate as much to tell a group of preppy white kids to settle down. Of course, maybe I'm all wrong.

It is about behavior and nothing more.
Bad behavior comes in all shapes, sizes, ages and colors. Next time call the police and stand your ground (as long you are not in danger)and file a report. Trust me the very sight of the police would either make them take off or modify their actions. You have every right to be where you were and not be hassled... sopd is very responsive in these situations.

SONanny, sorry to inform you that this behavior is par for the course nowadays. Many of the kids (& by kids I mean anyone up to 17 yoa) that give the town residents problems and deface the equipment in our parks are not even from our town. The best thing for you to do is call the police right away when these things happen. Unfortunately it's not always like montrose says and most of the kids that behave this way don't give two sh#@s when the police show up, nevertheless the police will ensure that you'll have a pleasant and safe time in the town's parks.

BTW Monty you're 100% correct, why..my guess is that some people (not just whites) are reluctant to take a stand against black people for fear that they'll come back and accuse racism. The thought of someone perceiving them as a racist will make them avoid a confrontation or making an opinion even if it's well grounded and valid.

Anybody see the article in today's S-L about the three kids (two from Mplwd, one from S.O.) arrested for trespassing at MMS? Their parents immediately claimed police brutality.

Not only call the police but press charges if there is any kind of abuse physical or verbal.

All you have to do is shoot one of the kids and the rest will fall in line.

Soda-
Where'd it say anything about the parents making these accusations in the article?? I must have missed that part.

And why did race suddenly become part of what happened? SOnsnny nor MATB never mentioned the race of the kids involved.

The problem is a lot of the parents whose kids are creating the problems don't care. The don't worry that their child (15 & 16 yr olds mostly) are out till 1 am. When you correct them you're the bad one........."don't talk to my kids like that". When the police scoop em up and bring em home they wanna know why their kids are being harrassed.
