At least on Mondays and Fridays the local recreation department camp programs are using it in the morning. (but I didn't realize that it wasn't open to others) |

I think it mightopen at noon because there is no money to pay the lifeguards for the extra hours? The smaller kids have the baby and 'intermediate' pools away from the main pool; so the main pool really doesn't need to open earlier for the smaller kids. I think there might still be an early bird swim at 6am. Don't know if you can take litle kids to that. When I was a kid the pool was open 10am-noon with one hour for boys swim the other for girls; unless you were with a parent, then you could come any time during the two hours. The pool closed from Noon-1pm. Then was open again for an hour for girls and an hour for boys. Or was it two hours? Closed again for dinner, then opened for everyone. Glad it isn't like that anymore... |

Years ago, the old pool was open 1-3 PM for boys swim, 3-5 PM for girls and evenings for family swim. If you were a girl and it was 95+ in the shade, you were SOL until late afternoon. And that pool was bad- the bottom was so decrepit that you could cut your feet on it very easily. |

The original wall of the pool is still sort of intact adjacent to the baby pool. ps: The community swimming hole was also referred to as a "polio pit" by some adults during the '50s. Due to misinformation about said disease. |

Brett and Matt- Remeber the locker rooms at the old pool? And Mrs Daily who would always yell at everyone trying to sneak food up to the deck when the new / current "In the picninc area?!" And how there was only one life guard chair at the deep end with a second guard who walked around? How about the Thursday BBQ's behind the pool by the Farrells? And the stupid litle black pan you were supposed to stpe in to clean your feet before you went in the pool? That pool was so SMALL! That's why there was boys and girls swim. Thanks Brett for clearing up the time in the afternoon. |

I remember the old pool. I won a trophy at age 6 for walking the fastest through the water across the steps. The new pool seemed so big and fancy and 3 instead of just 1! Don't forget that South Orange (I hope!) still has a swim team, and their practices are in the mornings as well (jello eaten dry before each race!). |

Remember every July 4th they would dump hundreds of goldfish into the pool and the kids would catch them? Bad idea- the water was filthy (filthier?) for days and the fish all died within a day. This was obviously contrived by the same guy who went on to WKRP in Cincinnatti, where they threw live turkeys from a helicopter to celebrate Thanksgiving... |

I'm wondering why they don't paint lines in the Middle school parking lot? people park very far a part. i'm sure you could get quite a few more cars in, and parking can be really tough! |
