I am looking for swimming lessons for my kids. I have used the group lessons at the pool but found them fairly worthless once we got past getting over fears of the water. I have on occaission used the pool's private (life guard) instructors and they were at best adequate and at times so disinterested that they scarcely paid attention to the lessons. This year I want my child - 9 years old - to progress beyond gasping doggy paddle and learn to swim. Can someone recommend a swimming teacher who is actaully good at teaching? I am not interested in someone with a nice personality but who is not a good teacher. Something at the SO pool is conveneint but I will go to Seton Hall or a Y if that is where I need to go. Thanks in advance

My son is 3 1/2 and is learning to swim at the NYSC in Livingston. He is doing really well and the instructors are very good.

Also, check out the Y's in Summit, Maplewood and Livingston, all very good. Or there is the Connections in Summit I have heard great things about.

NJ Swim has classes at the Brooklake Country Club in Florham Prk (Just 15 minutes from SO) Go to NJswim.com for contact info. Had my 3-year old in lessons there and they were great. I actually got to observe the lessons at the pool here and was very grateful we chose to do otherwise. At NJ swim they are very professional and also very nice. Good Luck!
