Main Street South Orange FARMERS MARKET Enjoy the freshest, just-picked produce and flowers grown only in New Jersey! NEW LOCATION @ Meadowland Park Duck Pond – between West South Orange Avenue, Mead Street, and the Community Pool. Starts this Wednesday, July 6th, 2:30 pm to 7 pm, and every Wednesday until October. New Jersey farmers and vendors offer delicious baked goods, fresh breads, cheeses, pickles and prepared foods. And, it's a great place to bring your kids, take a break from the pool, shop on your way home from work, and meet your neighbors. Additional information can be found at www.MainStreetSouthOrange.org/news.php or by calling 973-763-6899. Please note that the MSSO Farmers Market temporarily has been relocated to accommodate ongoing renovations to the fire house, planned summer work on the Sloan & First Streets shopper parking lot, and the anticipated, resulting demands that will be placed on already strained downtown parking. Main Street South Orange invites all commuters and residents to stop by our new market location, patronize our farmers, and continue to make the MSSO Farmers Market among the most successful markets in New Jersey.

In order to promote a more festival atmosphere. The Township of South Orange Village invites all attending the Farmers Market to park their vehucles in Cameron Field. We wish to harken back to the time of "The State Fair". All produce shoppers should feel free to bring items from the home to barter with. Due to complications in other locales domestic pets & livestock will no longer be accepted in trade. Also new to this season is our very own "Village Idiot" attraction. A different familiar face from town will be featured each week bound in a "Stock". For a nominal fee of $1.00 residents are encouraged to toss soiled fruit & veggies at the "idiot". Heckling & verbal abuse are free and encouraged. Matt Foley Director of The New Farmers Market Cooperative |

I love the farmers market, but the traffic at the 2:40 dismissal time for the Adult School Summer Program at SOMS has been atrocious the last week ... I hope they can keep the market parking away from SOMS. ... or maybe they should start at 3:30 rather than 2:30 for the next three weeks until the summer program is over ??

Just checked out the Farmers Market, and it was as good as last year -- great new setting next to the duck pond. I parked on Meadowbrook Lane, but noticed lots of parking behind the middle school. |

Not sure if there was a small turnout by vendors, or if some had packed up by 6pm, but there were only four vendors, not including the MSSO tent, from waht I saw. I picked up some tomatoes, corn, blueberries, and of course, a container of pickles from Dr. Pickles! Nex week, Hoboken Farms for a few night's worth of dinner. |

I stopped by the Farmer's Market about 6:15. Was able to get cherries (and a free sugarplum) from one stand and tomatoes from another. I was going to get corn, but most of the cobs had been partly peeled by other people. |

I remember there was a debate regarding moving the market away from the station to the park. How has business been? Are the markets still getting the same sales as they did in previous years when commuters picked up items on their way home?

bump red-alert - don't know, seems busy when I go. Why not check it out and ask the vendors yourself? You can't beat the beautiful fresh cut sunflowers for $5 for five - surprise someone you love! |

I have been told that sales are as good as ever and have been getting better. It seems that a lot of people who did not want to battle the commuter crowds find this more convenient. I just walk over from the train - and then back to my car. Certainly more room to move around. |

Thanks to loyal, enthusiastic Village residents, employees, and visitors, the new location of the Main Street South Orange FARMERS MARKET has been generating sales for our farmers/vendors that are comparable to last year's market -- and significantly better than most markets they attend. Our farmers/vendors love our market, and we're proud to support them. The market is every Wednesday, 2:30 - 7:00 pm, at the Meadowland Park Duck Pond, across from the Community Pool. Please park behind the S.O. Middle School and on Mead Street, Meadowbrook Lane, or N. Ridgewood Road -- or, simply walk or ride your bicycle. Enjoy the freshest, just-picked produce and flowers grown only in New Jersey! New Jersey farmers and vendors offer delicious baked goods, fresh breads, cheeses, pickles and prepared foods. And, it's a great place to bring your kids, take a break from the pool, shop on your way home from work, and meet your neighbors.

I would like to try to head over to the market but it is out of the way. I am one of those station people who liked to get summer produce on my way home from work. After a long day, I am not going to walk over to the park for a bunch of apples, or fresh vegetables for dinner.

I walk to the farmer's market every Wednesday, and I live a bit past the train station. Yes, the old location was much more convenient for me, I would have been practically right across the street, but the quality of the produce is still well worth it. One of the farm stands has the biggest zucchinis I've ever seen for 75 cents each... you definitely get your money's worth! And I haven't seen any apples there yet, but I'll keep ya posted. |
