If your profile were to be deleted, all 2647 of your posts, many of which are extremely helpful to the rest of us, would disappear as well and I don't think you really want that to happen. What you can do is go into edit profile and delete your responses to each of the questions therein, leaving each of the optional response fields blank. You could then fill in new responses as desired or continue to leave any or all of the optional questions unanswered. As for whether or not additional posts are made under your present account, that is mainly a question of will power. If you don't think you have the will power but really want to stop posting, you could always change your password and not write the new password down. Then you could e-mail Dave and/or Jamie and make them promise not let you reset your password no matter what you tell them. Of course, if you are really addicted, you could always create a new on-line identity (How are Dave and Jamie to know the new identitiy is you, especially if you use a library computer to set up the account?) and continue posting any way. In the end, it is all up to you. |

LL I think after an hour or so, you can't delete your posts, uness you ask Dave or Jamie to. Whatever caused you to want to leave, and I now have an idea what it might be, I hope you reconsider. I've always found your posts to be informative, level headed and friendly. I don't recall you ever being mean in your posts. Whenever I've been in the library you've always been helpful! Even before I knew who you were and I called looking for my friend who was on the computers. (BTW I saw who got into the car that day! It was a kid visiting a friend at the apartments. GRRRR) Hey, I'm not going anywhere and I've gotten involved in a few heated topics o MOL, much to the dismay of my sister and mom! Please reconsider. I hope you have a nice 4th! |

Perhaps the realization has hit LL that MOL is but a small isolated sample - a "nanocosm" - of life and opinion here in our two towns. It doesn't have nearly the influence or importance that most MOL'ers believes it does. And if you happen to post an opinion that is contrary to the accepted norm, you receive a virtual stoning, from one viewpoint or another. Sometimes both. Is it really worth the trouble? You can even see here that LL has already been criticized for her actions. Everyone has an opinion. Small minds, small town. |

I think she left due to the News-Recker printing her 20k raise over the next four years. 20k is a lot to receive for MOLing. No need to scold me. I honestly just dispensed w/my library card. I'd rather be more of an illiterate moron than be in the company of a Catholic basher. |

Princess, when your 15 posts turn into 2600+, I'll consider your opinion more thoroughly. Same for you, GlassJoe. Amazing how so many short timers are judging someone based on a handful of her posts. Perhaps when you've ben here for a few years, you'll have some perspective. Or are you just new identities of existing folks? |

New-Perhaps Interesting-Not even close. Your choice of course LL, but you will be missed. I'm sorry that so many jumped on the band wagon in criticizing you, apparantly because they were protecting someone who has been a strong supporter of the MOL community. I doubt that some even agreed with the accusation, they just got involved in this pack mentality. We should remember, a bunch of rights don't delete a wrong.

Nancy: Whatever you decide, make sure it is the right decision for you. Also bear in mind that there is no pressure (except whatever you might inflict on yourself) to make a permanent decision either way. You can always choose to sign on to MOL or not; read MOL or not; respond to something you read on MOL or not; introduce a new topic of conversation to MOL or not; attend future MOL face to face and other events or not. The process of choice in this instance is an ongoing one. Personally, I hope you choose to keep the most of your options open by remaining an active part of the MOL virtual community and the real-life community which has become such an omnipresent extension of it. |

I couldn't figure out what happened to upset LL; then read the 'other' thread about SHU. For anyone who hasn't read it, please do. It turned very nasty and I don't blame LL for being upset. Hopefully, she will read this thread and see how many of us enjoy her postings. (I enjoy pizzas and the others too; but I don't agree with how the other thread got to the point it did). Maybe if everyone takes a deep breath, apologizes to each other, then agree to disagree everything can get back to the sometimes normal dysFUNctional family we are! And even if you don't feel like apologizing, well, nevermind. that's your right too. We've shown how though at times we don't agree, when push comes to shove we ban together when needed. Look how we come to Jamie and Dave's aid. Look at all the people who came out to support the fund raisers for David C. Look how someone is always willing to lend a hand to a poster asking for help.

Its really about civility. Fresh out of graduate school I used to write research reports -- many times they were critical/had negative results. My boss impressed upon me then, that I should never put in writing anything that I could not/would not say if I were sitting face to face with the people responsible. (or at least put it in the way -- that I would say it if I were talking to them across a table). I cannot imagine (at least I hope not!) -- that MANY of the posters here talk to the people around them the way they post! Sure, I, too will sometimes respond hastily without much thought -- but I try not to. Pete |

I posted this in the original thread (SHU) but thought it belongs here too. LL said she didn't like (ok she said intolerable - but we all know LL) the fact of a major institution with tentacles reaching far into SO imposing its doctrine on a student group. Three things then happened which in my opinion is why LL said goodbye. I do hope she says hello again real soon, btw. One, Pizzaz said that she has been intolerant in the past and didn't come up with any examples of this. Two, someone asked if she would be comfortable if a synagogue would be ok with Jesus on a cross in front of the ark. That was bizarre because I would bet more than even money that if Seton Hall were Shalom Hall - Ultra Orthadox - LL would have major issues with not allowing, for example, study groups composed of both men and woman, if that's where the Ultra Orthodox would take it. Three, Dave opined that apologies are in order on both sides and called LL's views extremist. Hope I summed it up ok (this from memory from last night and a few vodka and tonics in between) - hope it resolves real soon. I would surely miss LL and Soda in this community.

pizzaz didn't just say she has been intolerant in the past, oh no, he went further. he implied that she should not be allowed to express her personal views because she is an employee of the village of south orange. seems a bit 'extremist' to me. seems contrary to the first amendment to me. he was out of line and should have apologized. |

I think if we all let this die down LL might be back... At least I hope so. What bothers me, and I like pizzaz, but as I supported who wanted to be an elected offical, and I hope will be one in 2007, he hasn't at least stated he doesn't agree with what SHU is doing; despite the fact SHU has the right under the law. Again, I think what LL was trying to say, as a community that prides ourselves on bejng INCLUSIVE we should be concerned an institution in town, that says they want to build a better relationship between them and us, is not allowing (recognizing) a group -GLT that wants to promote UNDERSTANDING and ACCEPTANCE to exist with the same rights as the other groups on campus. We don't see the temples, or organizations supporting the community residences (group homes) or other reglious institions as involved in the town as SHU, do we? That's what bothers me. That SHU seems to want so much from us. Like I said, unfortunately SHU has every right to do what they're doing as far as the GLT group is concerned, I just don't undertsnd why more people aren't saying 'Hey, this isn't right; but it's allowed...' |

OK. I too admit that LL is one of my favs. I posted hastily the other morning. I woke up in a "mood" and did not fully comp. my words. In all sincerity LL, I am sorry. I do not think in the "pack" & I do not dislike you. I was feeling large & I should have kept my sarcasm in check. While I do not totally agree w/your method of exit(obviously) I think you should stay if you wish. I did not mean to perpetuate mass ill will nor did I want to have a large "pity party" in your honor. Bottom line. Nancy- I like you & I enjoy your posts (mostly). You will live to survive another MOL controversy. They occur & that is that. obviously I should visit the library more. My spelling is horrid. |

Hey Lucy, get your head out of the South Orange thread and hop over to "Please Help" for 5 minutes where there IS info about helping the family. " number of people have asked, here and offline, how they can help the Cobles. As many of you may know this has been quite financially difficult for the Cobles, both because of expenses and because David's mother Alana had to stop working to care for David. Anyone who would like to help with the expenses of the funeral can send a donation to the Friends of David Coble Fund at www.davidcoblefund.org or P.O. Box 191, Maplewood, NJ 07040 Information filed with the Attorney General concerning this charitable solicitation may be obtained from the Attorney General of the State of New Jersey by calling (973) 504-6215. Registration does not imply endorsement. Because The Friends of David Coble Fund is established for the benefit of a single individual, contributions are not tax deductible}" |
