Our beloved family dog "Mitch" is missing. He apparently took off during the fireworks and was last seen running up West Montrose towards Scotland Rd. He is about 3 feet tall with a face that looks a bit like a german shepherd, and a tiny tail. His coloring is very distinctive yellow gold and a white stomach and white hind legs similar to a collie's coloring. (I'll attach a photo soon) He is very friendly and non aggressive. He has never run off before and we think he ran to escape the noise and became lost. If you see him or think you saw him please call 973-580-9814, 973-580-9815, 973-313-9814 or private line me. There is a huge hole in our hearts without "Mitch", any help is appreciated. Thank you |

This is a crazy time for loose dogs. While walking our dogs down to the fireworks last night, we found a dog shivering and terrified near Grove Park (luckily after carrying it around for a few blocks I found its owner), and saw another loose dog that despite a lot of trying, we were unable to catch. We live in the area Cagey, and will definitely keep an eye out for your pooch. Our dogs tend to be magnets for strays (we've lived in Montrose for only a year and a half, but have found at least 6 strays during that time). |

Thanks for keeping an eye out Cmonty - I am trying to stem the tide of despair as time passes but the posts and calls from MOLers are really helping me to keep hope alive. Thanks

Cagey: I think you frequent these boards, so you know that there are countless stories of dogs missing for a looooooong time that get found. |

I am trying to keep that in mind Cmonty. I've just never personally gone through something like this before. I am a wreck and my kids are just so sad - it's ripping me up but I am a firm believer in hope. THanks for the encouragement. |

So glad it's a happy ending, CageyD. I know how scary it is when an animal goes missing, you can't think about anything else. I saw lots of people taking their dogs to the fireworks and felt kind of sorry for the poor pooches. Don't the loud bangs scare them? No criticism intended, just wondering. -bets |

Thats what you get for taking a dog to Fireworks. How stupid can you be? did you think YOUR dog would like it? The star leftest did a whole article about this on Friday. Your lucky you got your dog back. The only people worse then you are the ones who don't watch their kids. |

Well. That was certainly a heart-warming, Kleenex moment post, Quint. Are we going to bake Ex-Lax cookies for the neighbor's children as our next act of community spirit? |

Quint- I'm guessing not as stupid as you!!! Where did Cagey mentioned they took their dog to the fireworks? Montrose Ave is a good 2 blocks from where the fireworks were. LONG blocks at that! (Hey Dave feel free to give me a time out) |

My dog loved seeing the fireworks. He was on leash and NOT in the park. To be honest, my pooch probably couldn't have cared LESS about the noise or the fireworks. He occassionally stared at them, but more often than not didn't even notice anything. I think he just enjoyed being near us, being pet and adored rather than being left at home. I also enjoyed bringing him to a crowded location and seeing him fit right in. That was a major accomplishment which made me very proud of the pooch. |

Thanks, Alley. I really was wondering, as I know my last dog hated them, and my cat won't emerge for hours after the fireworks each 4th (and alternating New Year's Eves). I guess, like people, they all react differently. |

Well. That was certainly a heart-warming, Kleenex moment post, Quint. Are we going to bake Ex-Lax cookies for the neighbor's children as our next act of community spirit? That was hysterical greenetree! My guess is that Quint never owned a dog. Some dogs can sleep through anything while other dogs jump at anything. I had to literally look for and wake up my best friend's dog when I took care of her when my friend was away. You could have walked out with the contents of the entire house and this dog wouldn't have noticed...other dogs would eat you. If your dog is going to go nuts at home because of the fireworks you may as well take him to the park where you can offer your faithful companion some comfort. Better to do that I'd think then to come home and find the cops there because someone filed a noise complaint because the dog was barking their head off. Cagey, I'm really glad Mitch made it home OK! |
