this is a nanny scam:
Hello,
Calvary greetings to you in the Name of the Lord,i am Pastor Tony
Smith.Am an English speaking clergy from Nigeria.I will be coming
over to Westfield, NJ for ministers conference from 10th August to
the 15th August for a 5 days conference with my wife and my daughter
of 1&half year .I will be needing the service of a Nanny that i
will give my daughter to while me and my wife are away for
4hours,from 10pm till 2pm everyday.Please acknowledge if you can
offer this service and give me a price quote for the five days. We
will like to pay in advance of our visit so that my daughter can be
assured of Sessions before our arrival. An early reply will be
appreciated.God Bless you.

Please be aware of posts like these! Do you attend this church? Can
you ask if the paster there knows this "person" personally? Sorry to be so un-trusting-
but..... he wants to pay you before??? he has no clue who you are- and he'll leave
his 1 and a half year old with you? Sounds VERY fishy to me!!! There is a HUGE
nanny scam along these lines going on all over! This "person" e-mails nannies and
offers a HIGH salary- sends a fake check and then asks for the money back- saying-
my daughter is sick- has died- whatever- to make you feel sorry for him- and so
you will send the money back quick. Just wondering- how did this "person" find
you? Also, let this be a warning to you all- who post personal info- these type
of "people" just love to search boards and come up with scams like this. Also,
there is another HUGE nanny scam going on- called "Wonderful Nannies" the guy asks
for $10 to sign up with his "agency"- Most nannies think- well it's only $10.....
but this guy does this over and over- and I'm sure makes a good living off this.
Nannies- please don't pay a dime to any agency- Good professional agencies will
not require nannies to pay anything. Sorry, to go on an on- but I just don't want
any of you to be "scammed".

Anything coming from Nigera is a scam. Also look out for Togo, Lagos and any other West African email.

I have herd and seen this on TV in investigative reports about these types of scams. The very first thing they say is if the person you are dealing with dose not want to meet you first when looking for a nanny for their child. IT IS A SCAM! No one would ever get a nanny for their child without meeting the potential nanny first. If you are selling something and the person buying the item you are selling sends in a you a check or money order amount larger then the price of the item. IT IS A SCAM! Do not ever cash that check. If you are selling on Ebay and this happens call Ebay immediately and talk to Ebay's safe harbor department and they will take care of it. Remember never ever accept a check or money order from someone that want's you to be the nanny for their child without meeting you first and If you are selling something and the buyer sends you a check or money order in an amount higher then the price of the item you are selling never ever cash the check or money order. NEVER EVER LET ANYONE WIRE MONEY TO YOUR BANK ACCOUNT THAT YOU DO NOT KNOW PERSONALLY! IT IS A SCAM! Please I do not mean to be so harsh here and if I am I'm so very sorry. It's just I have herd so many hart braking stories of people that have been scamed this way and how long it took for them to straighten it out. Please I would hate for anyone els to have to go through something like that.

My wife received such a letter several years ago and the address was taken directly from a Who's Who edition, including her academic titles. You hate to prejudge anyone but the FBI has a West African task force because they estimate that 70% of all immigrants from that region are involved in some type of criminal activity here. And 90+ % of all unsolicited mail from that region is likewise suspect.

I got a similar scam. I am registered with a translator service and got an email from a Bishop in Ghana.. yeah right. I got a check for a much higher amount than agreed upon and I took it down to PNC bank on Irvington Ave and they told me the account was legit, but the check was never issued.
I called the guy in Ghana, I knew it was a scam, he messed up in an email he wrote and forgot which language I spoke! Anyway, they wanted me to send money and I told him to go F himself!

So watch out for scams!!!
