Dear Barbara: I am trying to answer what I can as I can. We truly appreciate all the messages burning up the wire. Two comments: 1. Augie's NJ Memorial Service is scheduled for 7:30 pm Thursday, August 11 at Morrow. 2. Yes there will be a memorial plus two organizations to contribute to. I'll send details as I get them. For anyone interested, our mailing address is: Paul Schroeder & Rosemary Palmer 4465 South Hills Dr. Cleveland, Ohio 44109 216-351-6958. I want people to know how much they are appreciated by us. In the last 48 hours we have learned more about Augie than we knew. He now seems larger than life to us (though it isn't easy to forget the dirty socks stuffed under the couch). Also, we want them to know that the question is not why, but what next. Best Paul |

I attended the service tonight and it was extremely moving, from the mix-tape made by Augie's friends that played while we were seated to the beautiful and heartrending speech by Augie's best friend, Brian. Thanks again to Paul, Rosemary, and Amanda for giving their New Jersey family and friends the opportunity to grieve together. My nephew was granted leave to attend the service in Ohio, and he'll be joined by his brother and sister. (For any that are interested, my nephew will be home from the Marines on Aug. 23 and will start school in September. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed.) |

I forgot to thank BGS, who kept us informed and lavished so much time on the memorial. You are a gem in this community. |

The service was beautiful and moving. One of the speakers estimated 400 -500 persons were in attendance. That alone is a great tribute to Augie's memory and was a wonderful comfort to his parents. Bets: You neglected to mention that your nephew is currently serving with the marines - in Iraq. I don't think most readers of this board are aware of that fact. It's a shame Dan will be returning to Iraq after the funeral rather than finishing his hitch stateside. We all look forward to Dan's safe return once his enlistment is over.

Actually, Joan, Dan is scheduled to start school in early September in NY (can't remember the name for the life of me). He has to go back to NC after the funeral, but he'll be home Aug. 23 before heading up there. Don't scare me like that!!! |

Bets: I'm glad to hear it. His dad was a little vague on what Dan was doing after the funeral. Let us know if/when he makes it home. I know Joe is anxious to see him. |

Thank you Noglider. It's been a scary few years where my nephew is concerned. Joan, I can relate to my brother's sometime vagueness - you never really know what's going to happen, only when it happens. Fingers, toes, eyes are all firmly crossed until Dan gets home in time to prepare for school. It's going to be a tough weekend for him in Ohio, that I know for sure. I will send my brother the link to this thread (I've been trying to get him on MOL for years) so that he can let my neph know to call Joe.
