Hi Oh Maplewood Sages, I want to take my daughter, who turns 5 next month, to a movie, and was wondering about Narnia. She loves Wizard of Oz, even the scary parts, and Finney's Scrooge, which has that scary ghost of Xmas future, but I don't want to freak her out if the Narnia movie is scary, and I haven't seen it. Any insights? THANKS! |

I saw it with my 17-year old son a few weeks ago. He's loved those books since he was about 7. I didn't think most of the movie was scary, but the part where Aslan is killed is sad and the Witch has a way of turning characters who anger her into tortured-looking stone sculptures. All works out well in the end, but it might be a bit difficult for a young child while it is in progress. You know your child best, though. (I remember my daughter flipping out when she first saw "The Little Mermaid" - she was about 3 and dove under the seat, screaming, at the part near the end where Ursula blows up to mammoth proportions and wreaks havoc on everything in sight. That was back in 1988 and she'll still tell you how scary it was to her then. |
