As odd as this may appear at first glance, don't forget eBay. |

Tunes is great. They'll give you something close to the going rate for other used copies sold online. Of course, they don't take everything. I wish there were a Maplewood CD exchange like they have in the train station. |

CD World has always left a very bad taste in my mouth whenever I've been there.... the place is cold, commercial and has no soul. And a lousy selection of music, too. |

So, I have a box of CDs to sell and I drive down to Vintage Vinyl this afternoon. The woman says they pay $1 for each CD. One dollar. ONE DOLLAR. I took my box and walked out. What bull-. DO NOT GO TO VINTAGE VINYL TO SELL YOUR CDs. I'll take them to TUNES tomorow and get anywhere from $2 to $6 for the ones they want. |

Scotti's in Summit. That's where we buy our used CDs and vinyl. Funny story: Years ago, we were in that used record store on Bleecker St in the village. My girlfriend (now wife) wanted to ask the nasty old owner how much her records were worth: Wife: How much are my old . . . . Owner: A DOLLAR! Wife: But they're imports. Seven inch rare pressing . . . . Owner: A DOLLAR! Wife: I paid over $10 for them 10 years ago. Owner: Lady, all old records are worth a dollar. A dollar! I think he might have thrown us out at that point. ************ And my friend of mine worked in Revolver Records in San Francisco years ago. Guys would come in to sell their vinyl, (for a dollar) and then come back and complain later that their old record was now for sale for 3-4-5 dollars, and they'd been ripped off, 'cause obviously it was worth way more than that. So Rick would tell them to buy their old record back, and the five or six other copies, and save them as investments. |

Sorry, Mr. T. I've shopped there numerous times to purchase, but, never sell. Didn't know they were that cheap. Now, I feel cheated for laying out $7 or $8 for a used CD. |

I worked at the CD World that used to be in Menlo Park Mall all through high school. It was a small store on Rt. 1 before that (almost across the street from Vintage Vinyl, which was one of our biggest competitors), and they moved when MPM expanded, around 1991. Back then, the store was awesome. We carried everything, had really knowledgeable staff, a clientele that had very specific and sophisticated taste (lots of classical, jazz, etc.), and our prices were always below the typical mall stores. I worked there for a few summer/xmas breaks in college, and after that, i watched the store go downhill more and more with each visit. It's a shame - there's not a shred left of what it once was. Anyway, back then, i used to get lots of free music, and i traded much of it in for other stuff at a place called Barrack's Trading Post on Rt. 1. I never go by that area these days, so i don't know if it's still in business, but it's still listed on Citysearch. You could always give them a call. Barracks Trading Post 25 US Hwy 1 New Brunswick, NJ 08901-1561 (732) 828-0055 It appears there may be others in Bordentown and Maple Shade, NJ as well. |

Hey Maplecorp; Have you used secondspin.com and found them very good and trustworthy? Sent you a check right away? Nyuck-nyuck-nyuck.... ...anyway, since I had a box of about 60 CDs to move, I checked out the recomendations here. I visited Vintage Vinyl (see above) and I called Scotti's. When I asked the woman at Scotti's how much they pay for used CD's, she said "not too much, between zero and $2." So I went to TUNES on Washington St., in Hoboken, and folks, this is the ONLY place within 30 minutes to go. They took my box of CDs and said come back in 45 minutes. When I came back, the guy had laid them out in stacks and said, "we'll give you $4 for these, $3 for these, $2 for these, $1 for these cuz they're scratched and $.50 for these cuz they aren't worth much. And these in your box, we're not interested in. That's $91.00 in cash or we'll give you $110 in store credit." Badda bing, he gives me a receipt and I'm on my way. I took the cash since the last thing I need is 20 more CDs but I bought one new CD: "Thelonius Monk Quartet with John Coltrane at Carnegie Hall." |
