I have a corner in our living room that is just bare, bare, bare. Need a large houseplant that doesn't require much attention. Where would one get one and how much should I expect to pay?

Thanks!

For a living plant, lots of people recommend Metropolitan Plants in West Orange - they're in a small strip mall, but I can't recall the exact location. I think it is the same mall that Helen Hirsch bathing suits used to be in (but that may be going back a few years).

Home Depot occasionally has some of the more common large plants (dracenas, palms) - quality can be a bit spotty, so look them over carefully.

I have a huge house plant which grows quickly and lives mostly on air. Please send me a private line if you would like a generous size cutting or two. The plant really needs thinning/pruning so the cuttings will be thrown out if you don't want them.

Try Ikea. Just go to the Marketplace downstairs. They often have a special large plant for $10 or so, and you can find relatively inexpensive large pots too. I got a few small ones and a large one over a year ago and they're all doing ok without much care.

I have a 6' silk ficus tree I am looking to give away, if you decide you would rather not have a live plant. Never needs watering, and doesn't drop leaves! PL me if you are interested in seeing it, they have pics of similar trees on Michaels.com.

I've had good luck with plants from Home Depot. I think they guarantee them. Large snake plants (very low maintenance) were under $10.

Great place on Rt 22 East between Saab dealer & CompUSA (across from Outback Steak House). They have wonderful real & silk plants and the prices are good.
