I'm just reposting what I've been forwarded - but does anyone have any other info on this? What a horror...

The West Jersey Animal Shelter is closing at the end of this month. The Pennsauken, NJ shelter had it's license revoked due to unkept and dangerous conditions for the animals. There are currently 31 dogs and 5 cats on the premises that are in desperate need of adoption. If these animals are not adopted by the end of the month, they will be euthanized.

The West Jersey Animal Shelter is open for adoptions Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. and from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Phone (856) 486-2180.

Even if you can't adopt an animal, please repost this somewhere..

this is very sad.

why wouldn't they just transfer the animals to other licensed shelters across the state?

Does anyone know if other licensed shelters would have room for that many animals, even assuming a distribution of a few animals going to each shelter? It's been reported here on MOL that JAC is operating at or close to capacity most of the time and this is likely to be the case with other locally supported shelters across the State.

Other solutions which might be easier to mobilize on short notice would be to try and board the animals out with local vets (as JAC did for so many years) and/or organize a foster care program among local supporters of the closing shelter and/or specific rescue groups in the area.

Yeah - well some vets would euthanize too - but some would board. This is terrible - it should not be permitted to kill animals like this...

We have to do something - I am going to call the JAC and maybe the ASPCA or something??

I'm spreading the word. I wish I could take a cat but (8) is enough!

I know, I wish I could take more too. Please do spread the word. I believe that town is close to Philly. Here are some pictures of animals posted on the bulletin I copied and pasted:

Pennsauken is close to Philadelphia, but you can be there within about 90 minutes. It's not a bad trip at all. The pictures were also posted on the e-bulletin board in my office, so I was going to post them here until I saw that flugermongers already did. They all look like sweet animals who just need another chance.

The organization has its animals posted on Petfinder (I just checked). Some of the descriptions say that the animals are in foster homes.

I agree with Pippi, why don't they transfer them to other shelters?? Is this just a ploy to get people to adopt? Isn't there some kind of law or rule about this kind of change? It is a SAD thing, I do really hope they are all saved!

Carrie - a lot of people just kill unwanted animals. I don't know the rules, but I have heard a lot of stories about animals being euthanized really quickly with no one looking for homes for them... it's not taken very seriously... which is horrific.
