What does it mean when the microwave popcorn package says:
Packaged: 120 calories
Popped: 20 calories

Anyone?

Means you should remove the popcorn from the package before eating, because eating the package will put more weight on you than just eating the contents.

Mem -

I think it has to do with the serving size - 1 cup (concentrated, pebbly) unpopped vs. 1 cup (fluffy, oh-so-tasty) popped

Many people don't know that if you eat popcorn in the dark it has zero calories. That's why I go to so many movies.

Packaging is just chock full of fat and calories.

DON'T EAT IT.

Very good question mem. That'd be one where I might even go so far as to call the manufacturer and ask WTF!

It means you need to drink more wine. If you were more properly inebriated it would all make more sense to you. I promise.

Could some of the calories be lost during the popping process?

Check to see if this is explained in more detail elsewhere on the packaging of if there is a manufacturer's website that may contain this information.

20 cal/cup of POPPED popcorn. I'm 99.9% certain of that. A typical bag of microwave popcorn makes about 6 cups, which would give you your 120 calorie total.

Also, I recently discovered it's cheaper and tastier to microwave your own popcorn. All you need are kernals and a lunch bag - put just enough to cover the bottom in a single layer, fold the top over and stick it in the microwave for however long the commercial brands usually take. You can add butter (or butter spray), olive oil, salt, or whatever other seasonings you're craving on your own.

Too bad the mouse ate my left overs.

Anyone know how many calories are in movie popcorn without adding extra butter?
