I'm going to have a martini party and I know nothing about martinis - I might have had three in my whole life. Does anyone have any cool recipes please? Thanks in advance. |

Check out Food Network: http://web.foodnetwork.com/food/web/searchResults?searchString=martini&site=FOOD &searchType=Recipe Also I have a one or two bartender's handbooks at home if you need. Just make sure you have some variety in your Vodka / Gin since people can get picky, LOTS of ice and plenty of Vermouth and you should be set |

gin vermouth lesser or greater quantities of each, with or without ice garnishes -- olives, lemon twist repeat until the recipe no longer matters (had a family friend whose favorite "martini" was gin over ice... lots of gin) /p |

do you want just traditional martini recipes or do you want to have some other stuff you can serve in martini glasses? and of course, since martinis are largely pure booze, except people to be getting pretty whacked pretty quickly. Between alcohol content and the precarious balance of a martini glass itself, be prepared for spills (of drinks and/or people). you might want to consider classic gin or vodka martinis; apple martinis; cosmopolitans; then some "fun" martini like a French martini (Chambord, pineapple juice, vodka) or a chocolate martini (Godiva White liqueur, dark creme de cacao, vanilla vodka) or a raspberry truffle martini (Bailey's, raspberry or cherry vodka, Chambord, dark creme de cacao)...the last two are like dessert in a glass. Also, serve pigs 'n blankets...they go with anything. |

I'm partial to sour apple martinis...good vodka, like Ketel One (put in freezer) & sour apple schnapps & ice - shake & serve. Not a martini, but am loving a variation of a "Dark & Stormy"...dark rum (I've been directed toward Gossling & think it's good), some ginger beer & some pinapple juice, shake with crushed ice & serve like a martini. I bet the Cranes folks can suggest some yummy cheese, nuts, crackers & olives etc. to serve with your drinks. Sounds fun! |

Oprah swears by her famous pomegranite martinis. Although i've never tried them. INGREDIENTS 1 1/2 cups pomegranate juice 2 oz. Absolute Citron vodka OR white tequila 1 oz. Cointreau liquor Cup of ice Optional: Splash of sparkling water Optional: Squeeze of lemon Shake ingredients in a shaker and put in chilled martini glasses. Put pomegranate fruit into glass as garnish. http://www.oprah.com/foodhome/food/recipes/food_20051123_drink.jhtml |

The party was supposed to be for a few neighbors, either Friday or Saturday night 1/27 or 1/28, featuring a few crazy martini recipes (thanks for all these recipes - yum!) Should I make it an MOL party instead? |

Actually a standard martini is pretty easy to make. Here's what you need: Really good quality vodka (or gin, but I prefer vodka) vermouth a good shaker (large or small) with a filter top lots of ice decent martini glasses lots of ice olives or other garnish 1. chill the glasses 2. pour 3-4 shots of vodka (or gin, but I prefer vodka) into the shaker 3. add a splash of vermouth 4. put lots of ice in the shaker 5. cover the shaker and shake, shake, shake (booty, booty, booty) until the shaker gets very cold 6. pour thru filter into cold glass 7. garnish with olives or other stuff Badd-bing...

The classic Martini is two shots gin and one shot dry vermouth. Back in the 1960s and early 1970s it became popular to go light on the vermouth and people were often drinking what amounted to straight gin. I imagine some still do. However, give the classic a try using The Soulful ones mixing instruction and you will never go back to vodka or nearly straight gin.

T. that's too much ice. You shouldn't do more then 3 cubes per 4oz of liquid. It get's to watered down. The quickest way to chill the glasses, is to fill them with ice, and water. Then prepare the martini in the shaker, dump out the ice and water and fill with martini. My chocolate martini recipe: 1/3 Stoli Vanilla 1/3 Godiva Chocolate Liquor 1/3 Baileys always get's the mother in law drunk. This here is the Martini Menu of my favorite Martini Bar/Restaurant it's in New Brunswick. It lists all the ingredients, you just need to figure out the ratios. All of them are delicious: http://www.clydz.com/nonflash/martinis.htm |
