Are maplewood residents required to have their dogs licensed by maplewood? If so, how do I go about getting one? (I'm a new dog owner and clueless about this stuff) |

yes, you must go to the municipal building and register him there. they will give you a tag for his collar. it's $ 8.20 if neutered and $ 11. if unneutered. it must be renewed every year. of course, there are irresponsible people that don't register their dogs. |

ps. it's in the dog's best interest to be registered. if he gets out of the house, or the yard or escapes off-leash his registration number will lead him back to you. |

At what age is the dog to be registered? Mine is an unneutered puppy right now, but in a few weeks I'll be neutering him (he's too young right now, per the vet). |

oakland, it's not about the age. it's about registering for his safety and return if lost. you should register him asap and pay for unneutered. next year when you renew, he will be neutered at that point so then you can pay the $ 3. or so less. |

another thing, you may want to have the puppy microchipped. ask the vet about it. and don't forget health insurance...VPI, veterinary pet insurance is the biggest pet insurer. |
