Has anyone here switched to Geico? We got a quote from them and it was considerably lower than our current insurance but just wanted to see if anyone here has used them for claims and what your experience has been. I tried doing a search on the topic but I got an error message so sorry if this has been discussed already. |

We use Geico. I don't know if their rates are good because my hubbie had several points on his record, so we pay out the nose. We got in an accident and the arbitration case is still not decided, about 6 months later--they keep sending letters saying they are trying to get our deductible back. Other than that, our car was fixed promptly (at Modern Auto Body) and without any hassle from Geico. |

We've had Geico w/no troubles and lower payments. I was rear-ended and went through the insurance co of the loser that smashed into me, but kept going to Geico to get advice etc. Never filed a "claim" but did have to file a report. My premiums haven't budged yet - so far so good! (PS, they bill twice a year.) |

They're rates do seem lower (we probably would have saved a few hundred) but my husband had read negative things about their coverage re:accidents so we did not switch. |

VIT- I feel like I had also heard negative things about them but wanted to actually hear from actual people who use them. So far it seems like people are pretty satisfied. |

I used to have them and would have them as our insurers if it worked for us now. My parents had them as well, for years. I thought they were excellent. The only reason we don't is for some reason the quote wasn't that much lower and also, because we have au pairs, until they have a NJ license, GEICO won't cover them. So we can't take the risk for that period of time. |

I love Geico. Been with them in three states for 10 years. ALWAYS lower than anyone. I switched from Palisades to Geico when they came to NJ and saved about $800/year over three cars. Three claims, both not my fault, great service, but you have to dicker with the adjuster to get fair value (two cars totalled, one car just hurt). But then, you have to dicker with any adjuster. And you can do it all online. |

Geico utilizes used car parts if you're ever in an accident. From what I understand, they start you off low and crank up the rates every year. I have NJ Manufacturers, which is considered by many to be the best (and the hardest to get into) in NJ. |

we always here negative things about Geico from people who don't use Geico. darren, how do you know they utilize used car parts, and how is that different than what other company's do. we are teetering right now between NJ Man and Geico. Geico came in cheaper than NJ Man (just over 300/year cheaper for two car policy w/two drivers...believe it or not, just over 14%)

All insurers will specify used parts if you let them get away with it. GEICO is part of Berkshire Hathaway, Warren Buffet's company. Basically they operate without agents or local sales people service may not be a "personal" as with a traditional agency system company or a captive agent company such as State Farm. |

I know that Geico specifies used car parts first over new ones because I've had several friends in New York state that had Geico, got into accidents, and had their cars repaired. I also confirmed it again this past August when a Geico insured driver made an illegal turn and hit me broadside going through an intersection. It was clearly the other drivers fault, which meant that I had the option of having Geico fix my car. I chose not to because I called the shop where I wanted to get my car fixed and they confirmed it. You can even call up Geico claims department and ask them if you will get brand new OEM (Original Equipment to the Manufacturer) parts if your vehicle gets into an accident. Their answer will be no. One has to think of all the commercials we see for Geico. Their cost per client acquisition must be extremely high. Attract someone with a low rate and then in since its proven that most people don't investigate their insurance every single year, they can increase your price and make the money back in the second, third, or fourth years. NJ Manufacturers quote is misleading in a good way. In your second year you'll get a discount as well as a dividend. I believe my renewal discount and divident have averaged about 20% of the policy each year. Make a few phone calls to some auto body shops. Ask them what companies they'd rather work with in getting your car fixed. Geico or NJ Manufacturers. Almost all will say they love to work with NJM.
