Anyone know of a tailor who can hem jeans so they do not look hemmed like a pair of trousers? I want them hemmed with the somewhat puckered and the appropriate thread (ya know what I mean -- the way they look when you buy them). Thanks.

I just had Hediye hem two pairs of jeans for my brothers and she did a great job. Neither of my brothers could tell that they had been hemmed.

We love Mr. Bradford on South Orange Avenue in South Orange, just across from Rite Aid.

Routinely use Gleason's. I think about $10/pair for the pre-teen's. Maybe a bit more for adult.

Gleason's did a nice job on mine. Annoys me to no end that I need to get jeans hemmed. Who are they making these things for, anyway?

It's a way of life for me, given that I have short legs for my frame size.

For what it's worth, if you're looking for plain old jeans, I find I can order Lee jeans in exactly my size from JC Penney's website. Lees are still made in the US and are as sturdy as Levi's used to be.

Oh, just drag them on the ground. Then you get that hip, frayed look...

Yeah, I tend to order from Landsend for the same reason. Sometimes the kid makes out at Old Navy using the 1/2 sizes. But, often, when you want more fashion-oriented jeans you just gotta get them hemmed. Gleason's will use the right kind of thread, etc. so it looks appropriate.

Camnol,

Giraffes!

I truly, truly, truly do not know who could possibly be tall enough to wear jeans/pants right off the rack.

I started buying ankle-length jeans at the Gap and those look OK until you wash them and then they are just short enough to look stupid.

I have given up and now I just hack off the bottom of my jeans and use the excess material to make a handbag or a muffler.

i guess my legs must be longer than I thought because I often have a hard time finding long enough jeans.

it's not just your height VIG - you're skinny, too, that's why jeans fit you ( or are too short)

I have to hem jeans too and I hate it. I have taken to just buying the short length (they are generally perfect for my height) but not all jeans come in a short length. If I decided to splurge on some $100 designer jeans, I'd have to spend more money to hem them! (not that I would EVER spend $100 on jeans, but you know what I am saying...it's good to have options)

Sometimes hemming doesn't look right. If there's some interesting shape to the leg going on, hemming it can ruin the line...
<sigh>

I've had jeanas hemmed

If you buy jeans at Bobs Stores (next to Linensand Things on Rt 22) they hem them for you for $2.

I also like the Lee jeans. I'm petite (5'2") and they do a petite size which usually fits; they sell them at Kohl's at the Blue Star shopping centre at Watchung (going Westbound on Rt 22) and I've seen some at Walmart (although I only ever go there for something I can't find anywhere else eg. cotton thread).

PS; also forgot to mention that the Twelve Springs drycleaners on Main Street in Millburn also hems jeans - they did a great job on some Calvin Klein jeans I'd bought and it didn't cost very much at all.

They're located just past St.Stephens church (the white church with the steeple) next to a toy train shop and the laundromat.
