I'm am desperate to locate a cute stuffed Platypus for my father who is dying. While at the hospital last night (Wednesday) he told several stories about our family going to the New York Aquarium years ago to see the rare appearance of a platypus.

Later on when we asked him if we could get him anything. He responded "Anything?" We told him whatever he wanted we would do our best to see to it he had it. He laughed and said "How about a Stuffed Playtpus?!" It kind of became a source of laughter the rest of the time we were there.

When we finally left there late Thursday afternoon my dad said "Don't forget the platypus!" We really didn't think anything of it. Not being able to sleep, I called the hospital a little while ago to check on his condition. His nurse (who is FANTASTIC) made a comment about my dad telling him he's still waitng for the playtapus his daughters promised him!

Okay, so now this must have a special meaning for him bringing him memories of happier times. I've now made it my goal to find him one. It's not as easy as I thought. I just spent the better part of an hour checking online (searched Google) and of the more then 100 sites I checked, none had one in stock.

I would like to get one about 18 inches long. But time is of the essence. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am not looking for something for free, I wil pay for it. From what I saw on the sites I checked, one this size should cost about $20. Here's a picture to give you a general idea of what I'm looking for. Time is of the essence.

Thanks!

Try the toy store in Millburn, Babyland - 973-379-2978 If they don't have it, maybe they can point you in the right direction.

Good luck.

If Babyland doesn't have it, Amazon has one...

Zoos sometimes have exotic stuffed animals in their gift shops. I'm not here during the day, so I can't call the Bronx Zoo, but I will tomorrow if that will help. Perhaps they could overnight it? The two unique toy stores I can think of are Toys '4 All in Cedar Grove on Bloomfield Ave. and Elephantales in Summit. Again, I'll be happy to call them tomorrow if someone can't do it today.

I may have a small Beanie Baby one in the attic, but that platypus was magenta, not realistically-colored. Would that help in a pinch? I could look for it tonight if it would.

Auntie, we're going out for a while. I'll leave it in my mailbox on my front porch...466 Academy St behind the high school. Your family is in our thoughts.

Update on the Search. Friday morning I went through the posts calling or emailing every store suggested in this thread. I got to a store that carried him and had one in stock. Problem was it was one of the ones I had already contacted and it would have taken them 5-7 days to deliver it.

I even called Fiesta Toy directly. They were no help.

I'm at the very end of the list and by now very discouraged. I guess the saying 'you always find what you're looking for in the last place you look,' has some truth to it. The last link in Monster's post brought me the shopping thing through Amazon.

I decided to call 'All Plush' in Virgina directly to check how long it would take to get here. I then ordered directly through them instead of going through them, instead of Amazon.

When I explained the situation to them the woman I spoke with promised me it would be delivered by noon Saturday (and I paid enough through the nose for this). They had told me Friday if it didn't get there they would refund the money and Fed Ex / UPS (not sure which) would refund the shipping). Since at the time I thought I was racing against the clock, I didn't think twice about paying it.

Luckily I have long distance on my cell phone.

Well, guess what? As of Sunday afternoon my, father is holding his own; but the platypus still hasn't gotten there! Maybe it will arrive today?

Auntie, I'm thrilled your dad's hanging in there! Our stuffed platypus is still in our mailbox if you need it.

Thanks Amie! I posted an ran before. Now I'm finally home and I can relax for a while. The platypus in now with my father! I was mistaken about where it came from. It came from Animal World. They turned out to be total jerks too.
