Referenced on Amazon is this book:

The trend in school building design ... with some recent work of Guilbert & Betelle, architects (Unknown Binding)
by James O Betelle

Publisher: Scribner (January 1, 1932)

Amazon lists it, but its not available (although I did sign up for the sell-it-to-me-if-you-find-it option)

Its not in the Library of Congress catalog (!). Does anyone know of another good card catalog search tool?

I checked www.simonsays.com (it's the website for Scribner's parent) The search result was not available/out of print. Maybe a customer service person there can help you. There are some phone numbers listed on the site.

You just had to have that book, huh?

Good luck with your search. Let me know how it turns out.

Goldfinch books (on Baker St. in Maplewood Village) has done wonderful things in locating out of print books for me - you might want to ask them if they could locate the book you are looking for.

Do you need to own it, or just use it?

A quick check on www.jerseycat.org, show only the NJ State Library in Trenton owns a copy. The MARC record indicates the book is a reprint from this journal -- perhaps you might have better luck locating the journal itself:

p. 249-280 : ill. ; 30 cm.
Notes: Reprint from: Architecture. Vol. 65, no. 5, May, 1932.

Maybe the SOPL can request it via ILL?

For card catalog searches, I'd recommend www.jerseycat.org. For OOP book searches: Try www.alibris.com, www.abebooks.com, or www.powells.com .

Suzanne! You are the best with that note! I live in New Hampshire, but the UNH library has bound copies of that periodical right in the stacks, so I can just go scan it this afternoon.

Oscar O. Betelle designed most of the schools in Maplewood/SO including CHS so I'm holding out hope he mentions it... but he built no less than 50 High Schools so, who knows. Worth a trip...!

Thanks

John
