Anyone know a good place to buy lampshades? BB&B doesn't have what I want--someplace with a bigger selection.

Also, anyone know where to get a lamp rewired?

Thank!

Capitol Lighting on Rte 10 has a great selection of shades. For rewiring - try Gordon Dart electric on Valley - the fixed a couple of lamps for us.

Linens n things has lampshades. Mostly fairly cheap, but adequate unless you want something really elegant. I don't know about rewiring--Mr. Lizziecat does that.

Summit - across from the train station near the Dunkin Donuts. They are the real thing - an oldfashioned lamp shop that sells shades of all types and repairs.

I think it is called The Lamp Shop!

I've heard that Gordon Dart Electric on Valley can re-wire. I think his # is in the book. By looking at the store front with the elegant looking cardboard halfway up the window it looks as if he doesn't get many walk in's. But if you need a propeler for that yacht of your's, There's one prominently displayed in his window! :-)

Ive gone to the Summit lamp store too (kmk is most likely right about the name...I dont recall it myself)...whether I have had to drop something off or find some part for a d-i-y project...they are the real deal.

Lowes has a decent selection of lampshades. Or Target. Homegoods too, although often they're a bit scuffed up there.

Second for Capitol lighting for shades. For wiring, we've used Appliance Repair Service, behind the Sunoco across from St. Rose in Millburn (or Short Hills?)

Third rec for the Lamp Shop in Summit - they can do anything you need, from a simple re-wiring to an entire rehab of an antique lamp with ancient parts.

I DO NOT recommend Gordon Dart in Maplewood. I brought in a brand new lamp and asked them to put on a longer cord. Took them over a month and they charged me $70 + $20 "bench fee"!

I asked if there was a mistake and they told me I should have asked for an estimate when I dropped the lamp off.

I guess...

When I went home and plugged it in there was a "poof" and a spark and the lamp blew out a circuit breaker. Brought it back, they fixed it, but hinted that it was my fault.

Whatever, never going there again.

Anyhow, back to The Lamp Shop, they're great, and the shade shop next door has an amazing selection of quality shades - hint: bring in your lamp and they'll help you match it with the ideal shade.

You have to try Home Goods. They have one on Rt 22 by the Home Depot and one in Long Hill Township (a nice ride to the country). They have the most fabulous shades and lamps for the best prices.

I also do not reccomend Gorden Dart was. It was a simple rewiring and cost $35 plus $20 holding (?)- and like Lydia - took 4 weeks! The whole service was more expensive that the lamp. The shop could do with a good clean too.
