Try the Shop-Rite in W. Orange. They've done several birthday cakes for us and we've always been pleased. As a matter of fact, our little one recently requested "The Hulk", so I'll be placing that order soon!

A lot of bakeries are able to "paint" with frosting (or some edible "ink") any picture you want on the top of a cake. I've had great luck with Kings in Short Hills and Cait & Abby's in S.O.

Friends have used Costco for cakes, including popular character/theme cakes, and they are quite surprisingly yum!

My daughter just attended a birthday party yesterday with the Barbie and Pegasus theme. The cake was made by Cait and Abby.

I know a great cake designer who specializes in children's cakes (and art-themed birthday parties). I met her at a cousin's kid's birthday party in New York and she was wonderful! She travels to NJ. Cake prices are reasonable for a beautiful custom-made (and delicious) cake. Her company is Dreamscapes and she can be reached at 631-261-1421. Her name is Tracy. By the way, she also does hand-painted children's room murals which are GORGEOUS!
