My cleaning lady threw a rag in the toilet and flushed it. The toilet water goes into an ejecter pump and then outside. We had to replace the pump because of the rag. Now there is a very strong smell in the basement. What is the best way to get rid of this smell? Its been about a week since the pump was replaced and the smell has gone away slightly. Any help would be appreciated. |

If the smell is gas based, try bleach in the system, put it in the toilet. If it does not clear soon, look for a vent leak. If it is stuff on the cement areas, go to a garden center, and yes Home Depot has it, and get powdered lime. Spread that around and leave it to set for a couple of weeks. Later, George |

sounds like the line out to the street might still be clogged up a bit. Does the smell definitely come from the toilet? Do you have a shower or tub down there too? We had the same problem here, the smell actually was coming from the shower drain! We had a plumber (or Roto-Rooter, I can't remember)come and clean out the line the best they could, and the smell for the most part went away. Every now and than (once or twice a year)we might get a whiff of it, but that's it. |
