OK, so I have some companies, now I am trying to decide whether to convert from oil to gas. I have an above ground tank so I don't need to discuss decommissioning underground tanks in this thread. I've read that alternative sources are in the works that will be compatible with oil furnaces - such as vegi oil etc. I would like to be as green as possible now and in the future. Does anyone know about this? Also, some people say that gas is cleaner, but I've read just as many articles that say that oil is cleaner. Opinions? |

Well, what about the space your above ground oil tank is taking up? You must have neighbors/friends with natural gas, ask them if you can check out their equiment. The extra space in your basement has value. I personally love natural gas - it never runs out, it is usually cheaper to operate a gas clothes dryer than an electric one (although that, of course, is subject to current nat. gas prices), I love to cook on a gas stove top - seeing the height of the flames really gives great heat control. We have a natural gas line outside that we use for our BBQ. And, about a year ago, we replaced our hot water tank w/a continuous supply water heater (tankless) which runs on gas. Oh, and we installed a gas fireplace insert in the space of our LR fireplace - smoke always rolled out into the LR, so we could never use it until we had the insert installed. A great source of additional room-specific heat! I would recommend Suburban Energy, although I have no experience with them regarding oil systems. If you know a realtor, check with them to see if houses with/without oil heat sell better. Good luck! |
