She's been in the department for four months, and made a lousy first impression. Personally, she is shrill, combative, entirely unpleasant. Professionally, her instincts are comically bad. She is incompetent, and although her job despection required someone with computer skills, she doesn't even know how to burn a disc. The entire department despises her, as do other departments (i.e, she is in bad with HR, after hanging up on them repeatedly after HR requested her health insurance info and she was weeks late with it...) Our immediate boss, however, loves her. (We suspect a prior relationship.) I have no doubt she will eventually rub someone higher up the wrong way, but we'd like to be proactive and devise a plan to get her canned.

Any ideas?

Get her hooked on MOL and then fired for posting too often.

Hire Crossroad's smelly coworker to sit next to her. She'll be sure to want to leave on her own.

You could steal things from around the office (pehaps belonging to other workers) and plant them in her desk. Then report that you saw her take those things.

Have someone anonymously call your boss and complain, suggest that drug abuse may be a problem.

Have them open this link at work.

Sign up her email to organizations such as NAMBLA, KKK, etc. This may get her email flagged and could get her fired.

Just feel better for posting the idea, then let it go.

Let it go.

Remember, what goes around comes around.

Walk away and deal with it, Time will heal this if it is ment to be healed.

Something that might be mutually beneficial is to call a recruiter and tell him/her that you have a cow-orker whose skills are highly developed and desirable. Give your cow-orker's name and number. It just might turn out that if she takes a new job, the chemistry may be right, and she'll do her job better there than at the current job.

When I did this, I made the mistake of calling lots of recruiters in rapid succession. I requested that they not call my cow-orker right away, but they did anyway, so it raised my cow-orker's suspicion. So don't call more than one in a three-hour period.

I have a long list of recruiters, if you need.

Normally I'd agree, George. Time, and karma, needs a little kick in the arse on this one...

Can I have those recruiters names for myself, Tom? I'm not married to this job...I just hate seeing her "win."

karma - coworker angers everyone in the office and karma catches up and she is fired. Karma is working through the Duder.

Remember the old adage: "It's not what you know, but who you know."

Well, what if her immediate boss is not the real reason she is there, but someone else up the chain? He may just be playing nice to her because of that.

Gatica, that certainly crossed our minds here. But we've decided it couldn't be because 1) my boss is too tolerant of her, and 2) is increasing her responsibilities. Especially in my last job, I've seen plenty of who-you-know hires from up the chain and this doesn't seem like one.

I would advise against this. There's no moral ground for it, the stakes (your own job, your own reputation) are too high. Do you care to get called into court if she sues for harassment or discrimination?

Hopefully you didn't post this from your work location. If you have, you've already made a serious blunder.

Argon is right. The stakes are high.

Be sure not to get caught!

Argon, you are so right on about this. If Duder posted this from work, or even if she sues and does a good internet search, he may be dead meat. I think that he now needs to do everything in his power to make sure she does not get fired, ever, for any reason, or else it may come back to haunt him legally. Whenever she screws up, he had better fix it for her, and pronto.

And I take back my suggestion above to introduce her to MOL. I am sure she is a fine, upstanding, person of the highest caliber (please recuse me).

Ask Dave or Jamie to erase this thread. Leave no evidence. Tell no one else your plans. And make all calls related to this from outside lines.

Hey, as long as the thread is getting erased, I'd be happy to knock her off for $25. I'm in a bad mood (see "sears" post in home fix it) and could use the cabbage.

I could also call and leave embarassing messages for her with the admin. "Yes, could you tell her that her parole officer called???"

Tom, you consistently type "cow-orker" for co-worker. Why?

I will tell you this - complaining to your boss about a crummy fellow employee will aggravate your boss. I say this from the boss side of the desk. This is so even if the boss is very aware of the employee's deficiencies - nothing, and I mean NOTHING, is worse than a whiner. And the boss won't let you know if s/he is taking disciplinary actions, so if you do complain and nothing seems to be happening, don't assume that nothing is happening.

And from the boss side of the desk, I will also add that generally speaking it isn't easy to fire somebody. Depends on the organization, but most places the boss has to document everything for a fairly long period of time, demonstrate that disciplinary actions have failed, etc before a termination can occur.

So, learn to live with her or show her MOL. Or call some recruiters.

CFA, it's so people will ask me why. I have lots of quirks. They allow me to chuckle.
