Help! I don't commute to NYC every day, but go in once or twice a month. I used to be able to park behind the old Shop Right Liquor Store in South Orange for $5, but now you need a permit! I had to drive into the city yesterday because I couldn't park. Does anyone know of a legal place to park near the S.O. or Maplewood Train station? I'm happy to pay, but really need to find something.

Thanks!

Maplewood train station has a pay by day lot, but you have to get there early. My husband parks there sometimes to catch the 7:30ish train and doesn't have a problem finding a spot.

There are also about 10 metered spots on the street that is next to the South Orange Library (between Vose and Scotland) They are $4 for 12 hours but probably get snatched up early.

There is parking at the SO station, in the back towards Church Street (is it the yellow or the white lined spaces??) Again, this will work if you're early enough. (I believe that the permit holder spaces also open to hourly parking after 9 or 10 am or so, although they are mostly - but not always - taken by that time)

Then you buy token(s) to put in the machine -- at the railroad underpass.

If you're willing to walk 10 minutes, there is free parking, no permit required. Check Oakview Rd or Burnett Terrace, east of Prospect St in Maplewood. Courter Ave may also be open for this.

How about driving to a Jitney stop and taking the Jitney?

What time do you go in? If it's after 9:00 you can park on Durand in Maplewood -- 3 minute walk to the train.
