Next Friday 2/17 I am in dire need of a sitter in the a.m. (8:30-11:30). As we are new to town, can anyone point me in the direction of where we might find someone?

Do you need a sitter at your home, or are you willing to drop off. Is it just for next Friday, or will it be an ongoing thing? How old is the child (or children) in question? There's no one central resource to go to for this kind of thing, which is unfortunate because it seems to come up a lot. School aged kids will be of no use to you during this time because they'll be in school.

I do have this site in my bookmarks, although I've never used them:

https://www.student-sitters.com/parentabout.html

I would also suggest asking friends or neighbors if they have anyone they use. I have a couple sitters that I use evenings and weekends, but they wouldn't be available in the morning.

If it's down to the wire and you still haven't found someone, P/L me. We generally take it easy Friday mornings and don't really "schedule" anything, so there's a good chance I could help you out.

Good luck and Welcome!

If you know anyone with an au pair and school-aged children, you might check with them. Often au pairs are happy to have other jobs to earn a little more spending money and are available during regular school hours.

Elizabeth - how old is your child(ren)? If younger than school age (which I'm assuming from the time frame needed), you can do drop-in at Totri (on 4th St. in South Orange)...You would have to fill out some forms & register ahead of time I think (small fee - $25?) & this would let you use the drop-in service when needed - I think it's $9/hour. I use them on occasion for my yougest. Totri: 973-761-4309

Otherwise, there is a service called "In A Pinch" & I have heard positive things...think they are in Westfield or Summit & I believe they send someone to you.

Last, any new friends who might have a regular sitter on Fridays? - perhaps they would be willing to share that day.

Good luck!

Thank you all! Our kids are little (4, 4 and 21 months) and while our 12-13 year old neighbor is great, she's in school.

I'm going to need to find someone more permanent (not quite ready to admit to a nanny but maybe a shared nanny?) soon, but since we just got here last month, I'm really hesitating to bring more upset into the kids schedules.

Thanks for the help!
