Dave, Why remove the entire section if the issue was one topic? |

Everyone knows that Dave is against free speech. He once told me that me that he wanted the government to run all news media in the country so that private companies would stop polluting our minds with their lies. |

Had a feeling that was coming. Maybe not the loss of the whole topic, but definately shutting down that thread. Seems some folks just don't know when to stop. |

I didn't read that thread (I rarely read the education section), but I was just handed a yellow flyer talking about health insurance costs for teachers... and frankly, I wanted to hear what you guys thought of the topic. With very little information, I'm torn: I pay into MY health care plan... but I know teachers are not well compensated. Then again, I don't have children in the schools here. On the other hand, I want property values to remain high. Its turning out to be an annoying kind of morning. |

Case, they closed one of the threads because of sensitive legal issues and a poster just created a new thread! Hope that person can't post any more on MOL! |

Don't think that was it Mayor. And no, ess, I don't see how anyone could recap what it was about without "stirring things up."

It wasn't the high school. A dispute between a middle school teacher and a student and the student's parents is now in the courts. The thread was pulled because we are not supposed to be discussing this type of court case on the internet as it would open MOL to a lawsuit and compromise the case. One of the posters just opened up a new thread when it was closed and others began to comment all over again. When a thread is closed, posters need to understand that it is for a legitimate reason and this is the type of outcome that can be expected. |

I don't know. That to me seems ridiculous. Because something is in court doesn't mean that people can't talk about it. If we talk about the OJ trial does that mean that OJ can sue MOL? Well sure, anyone can sue anyone about anything. But it doesn't mean that they will win. I can understand that Dave might be watching out for his own interests, but it certainly dillutes the usefulness of MOL when something like this happens. It also makes me feel awkward, like somethings are taboo, and IMO this is normal enough conversation. People talk and bulletin boards are SUPPOSED to be used to help people communicate. Seriously, no one likes being stifled or having their voices muted. I couldn't care less about the topic at hand or education section AT ALL but I don't like how Dave is handling the matter. Alley - this is Dave's playground - if you don't like the way he operates it - don't come to play. |

Alley, a bulletin board is a form of publication. Libel is a serious offense! Sometimes, in fact often, people get the story wrong. And then people start to name names. Bulletin boards are worse because we are allowed to post without putting our real names. If anything, this bulletin board is more liberal than it should be! I only blame the perpetrators who were told that a discussion was off limits and wouldn't take no as an answer. They acted immature and were punished like school kids. |

If it was just one person, the one who started the thread, Dave might not have come down so heavy. But others joined in. He had to make a statement to everyone that when a thread is closed that is it! |

I was one of the people who chimed in and perhaps it wasn't a good thing. It's a very fine line as to what is acceptable, given that Dave and Jamie had a prior suit and that's why they are being so careful. It just is frustrating as this is an upetting situation in the schools. But they are erring on the side of caution. |

Well, maybe people will now think before they up and threaten to sue Dave and Jamie. There are a small handful of crybabies who threaten them when they don't like something posted. After the debacle a couple years ago, where the Brothers Ross spent much time and money in court over a bogus charge, they have gotten cautious. I think it sucks that a couple of bullies ruin it for everyone else. |

Yes, Greenetree, but some of the stuff that gets posted is malicious and libelous. I agree with Peter that Dave and Jamie are pretty liberal with what they allow to be published on MOL. You can be sure that people would be more cautious if they were posting using their real names. |
