A couple of months ago I posted a note asking for help in reaching a goal my sister and I had collecting angels for Travis, a 15 year old battling Leukemia. Thanks to the generosity of the many people we reached out to we reach our goal! When I made my appeal, Travis was preparing for a Bone Marrow Transplant. The doctors expected to keep him the hospital for at least three months after the transplant. At the time, the doctors didn't think a transplant would work, but they were going to try anyway. Thanks God they did! Well, a very pleasant shock to everyone, Travis is home!!! He has to pretty much stay in the house for the next year (I think my sister might be wrong on this but) except for going to the doctor and a hospital in NJ for treatments! His doctors are so amazed at his progress and the rapid rate his counts have been climbing, they have asked Travis to be a spokesperson of sorts. (something he was uncomfortable doing). For many of us, unless we've gone through fighting a major illness, we don't realize insurance companies do not cover all of the expenses. Many families are forced into bankruptcy as a result of the debt they are left with. In the eyes of his parents and a lot of us who know Travis a miracle such as this is priceless and worth every cent. To help lighten the burden for Travis' family the Two Kids Foundation is having a Sock Hop fundraiser next Friday 18 February at the American Legion Hall in Whippany. Information can be found on their website: http://twokidsfoundation.org/ My sister and I found another way to help not only Travis' family, but The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as well. I bought 72 'patient bears' from the School and Youth Division of the Leukemia and Lymphoma. As you can see, these bears are adorable! Part of the money for these bears has already gone directly to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation. (the LL&F encourages schools to sell the bears as a way for schools to raise money for the school. We're giving the ,oney to Travis' family) The bears can be adopted for five dollars each. All the proceeds of these adoption will go to Travis' family to help defray some of the medical expenses the insurance company didn't cover. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to get the bears to people. We're always looking for an excuse for a MOL face to face; right? Perhaps if it's okay with Pizzaz and / or Art I could meet people at Bunny's or Heres2theArts sometime toward the middle of the week. If you'd like a bear, please let me know. Thanks! If you'd like more information about the foundation you can visit their websites: http://www.leukemia-lymphoma.org/all_chap http://www.schoolandyouth.org/school/Controller |

My sister just informed me Travis' family is more then $200,000 in debt as a result of the treatment needed to fight the leukemia. Please consider going to the dance or buying a bear. Thanks! |

Weren't they once called 'Boo boo' bears for little kids when they were hurt or sick? Well I've got three grandkids and will therefore need three bears. Four bears. Just remembered someone else who 'needs' one. They're SOOO cute! |
