Unfortunately, I did not insist on the prior owner completely cleaning out the garage and basement, hence I have old doors, windows, pieces of wood, etc, that are of no use and take up room.

Any ideas on ridding myself of this stuff? I also have a couple of microwaves I would like to unload.

Is there a day when the garbage collectors will take this stuff? Or a service that hauls away this type of refuse?

Not knowing where you are, it's hard to know a date, but either the Gaslight (SO) or the Maplewood circular (& probably websites) will say when bulk trash is picked up (infrequent).
If you are very eager, you can pay someone to take the stuff away...we use Fred Hodges - 908-688-2911

If you are in Maplewood, there is a bulk pickup once a year (formerly twice a year) where you can put this kind of stuff out on the curb.

Last year it was in the spring. The schedule on the township website (www.twp.maplewood.nj.us) is still from 2005, but best guess would be a similar schedule this year.

Zach Williams,

I have a GREAT junk hauler!

Champion Waste Removal - ph# 973-744-6766

The owner is Louis -

He's fully licensed, and they recycle whatever they can.

He'll give an estimate and then his crew comes in and can clean out the worst rusty sharp junk in 20 minutes - you just point and they do the rest.

Good luck!

Zach,

There was a recent thread about Trash Haulers that contained two recommendations for companies that perform this service. Go to the Home Fix-it area of the Message Board and click on "Archive through February 2, 2006." The thread is called "Trash hauler?"

Thanks Everyone...I'm in South Orange, so I guess I'll check when they haul or try one of the service providers recommended.

in south orange, we have Container Days. We bring our junk to Recycling. They start in April, once a month until September. Or you can call Public Works and list 6 items (metal for one day, and other stuff for another day). They will give you the next date and you put the junk out by the street for pick up on that date.
I use John Clayton for junk removal. He will also bring the junk to the street for you, if you need that.

If any of the stuff is salvageable, you may also want to try freecycle.org. It's amazing what some people may be able to use.

Btw, we second the recommendation on Fred Hodges. He's fast, reliable, thorough, and reasonable.
