OK, I'm the last parent in town to realize tomorrow is Valentine's Day and I have to have little cards/candies to give out at school. Where do you find a decent selection? Saw 2 choices at Kings in Maplewood on Sat during pre-snow shopping maddness, but the kids didn't like them. Are they at drugstores? I'd really like to find some bags of small packets of valentine-themed candy with the spaces to write the giver's name. Anyone know a good source?

Ahh, c'mon, make them yourself! My 3 year old and I spent 2 hours on Thursday making hers, and my older girls had a lot of fun doing it over the weekend. This year we did a collage piece (spin art, painted newspaper, wrote a few lines and printed them out, assembled them all on card stock). You could also do somehing as basic as cutting out paper, putting a sticker or stamp on it and signing the kid's name.

We love making them!

Thanks for the tips! My goal is to make one trip and find what I need in a short amount of time.

Having playdates come over in the pm and need this done.

VI-Girl - you win the amazing-and-creative-mom award for V-day! I'm jealous! And if my kids knew they'd probably want to move in with you!

(In my defense, I was alone Thurs-last night with the kids, including digging/snowblowing us out yesterday.)

Oh god PDG, that was not my intention at all! Trust me, I am mean and your kids would not want to move in with me. I am creative though!

We're too old for the school valentines now, but for the past two years, my daughter drew a "valentine" picture, we scanned it, then made copies for all the classmates. Then we folded each and put in an envelope with a few pieces of candy. Very easy and cuter than bought cards.

Ours was even easier than that - I'll try to attach the Word file making use of Windows clip-art. Just print out on card stock.

Last year we did the same thing - just cut out with scissors, rounded off the corners a little. Last year we poked two holes on the left with a hole-punch and threaded pink or red curling ribbon through the holes, and tied in a bow.

Very simple, un-fussy, and everybody thought they were very cute. You could also embellish with glitter, ribbons, sequins, or whatever else you have lying around - if you feel like taking the time, that is.

PS we only made two varieties this year - girls & boys. Last year we did page after page with every card different, making use of practically every Valentine clipart available from Microsoft and practically every font installed on my computer. I'm pretty sure we had different sayings on the cards last year, too - but I don't seem to have the file any more.

To get lots of choices for the clipart, try this. In Word you choose Insert->Picture->ClipArt, then go to "Clip Art on Microsoft Online." Follow the directions there and have fun.
