I'm thinking about using VOIP - Vonage to be exact - in my office. I understand the benefits (price wise especially) and the risks (no phone if the dsl is down), but don't really know how it works.

So, I'd get this adapter that I'd plug into my dsl outlet and plug a phone into the other end? How does it know its my phone?

I have multi line phones. Will someone at another phone set be able to answer a call that comes in on a voip line - or do I need an adapter there too?

Someone mentioned a wireless phone jack and suggested this would solve the multi-line issues.

I'm very confused. Can someone explain this to me in plain english or refer me to a good site to read (Vonage's assumes you know too much.)

Or pl me with a phone number and I'll call you!

Or call me, on my regular phone, if you know me and can explain this all.

Thanks,

Barbara

vonage supplies multi-lines for an extra fee.

i have used vonage for about a year now and love it.

for 4 bucks i set up a phantom number with my mothers area code and now she can dial a local number and talk to me cross country for the price of a local call.
plus al of the call forwarding, transfer, waithing, etc is included.

my verizon bill was always between 75 and 125 a month. now i pay 24.95 a month, every month. the quality is the same and the install was easy.

they give you a router, plug your high speed into one port, plug a regular phone line into the other port and into any phone jack in the house/office. unplug the outside verizon line and you are done.

Me too, but some are successful with DSL and VoIP.
