My wife and I are considering JCC in Livingston. Anyone a member? Was a member? Heard good/bad things about the place? |

Do you mean the JCC on Northfield Ave in West Orange? I'm a member; my kids and I use the gym on a pretty regular basis. SouthOrangeMom |

Whoops...you're right. For some reason I thought it was in Livingston. |

My kids (now 5 & 6.5) learned to swim there and take lessons every Thurs. - great program! A family membership is just over $700 a year, which beats any gym around here. You can pay extra for what I guess is a better gym within the JCC, but I find the regular workout room suits my needs. There are lots of classes to take, and many good ones that don't cost extra. There's raquetball too, which I love. The new parking deck I have issues with. They painted the spots for Cooper Minis. WAY too close and small. Oh, and when we first joined I got lost a couple times (the building has a weird layout imo), but everyone is very friendly and helpful. If you go regularly you'll make friends. |

I have been a member since 2000. Both kids went to nursery/Kindergarten there (my little one is still in Kindergarten) and take classes there. It's a good facility -- very modern fitness center, lots of classes, etc. My kids and I have made some outstanding friends there, too. Pdg, I also had issues with the parking deck. Too narrow, too many SUVs speeding around. They repainted the spaces, so it's not as bad as it was. |

We joined maybe a year ago mainly for the pool. We've actually been going to the Whippany JCC more because our daughter takes swim lessons there. They also have a kiddie pool & jacuzzi right across from it. Believe it or not, at light traffic times, it only takes us 20 minutes to get there using 24 & 287. |

The parking garage is much better now! It was ridiculous before, with tons of spots for compact cars when probably 80% of its members drive an SUV or minivan. The facility is great and will only get better when the renovations are finished. It is on the Livingston, West Orange border, which is why some people think of it as being in Livingston. |

We joined for the camp and stayed for the pool. We were going to the Y in Summit, which we felt had better gym and pool facilities but couldn't figure why to keep both memberships for the sake of 5 minutes difference in drive. I have heard many great things about the Whippany campus but haven't gotten there yet. We are looking forward to the new facilities being built.
