I'm sorry... i asked this here just a few months ago, and some people gave me some suggestions, but now that i'm ready to go shopping with my mom, i can't find the thread. Are the Please Help archives from late Sept 05 to mid Jan 06 gone??

Anyway, any suggestions where to go for mother of the bride/groom gowns? My brother's wedding is in July. Either off the rack or the kind you have to order is fine.

My mom just ordered her dress for my brother's July wedding.

She went to a bunch of local stores in SI, RK Bridal & a few others in NYC, Hollywood Bridal on Stuyvesant St (in Union, near Jumbalaya). RK is huge. Hollywood has a big selection of Jovani for MOB/MOG and their prices are fair and include alterations. Another place in the city my mom went to had odd pieces from high end designers at discount prices...a Rose Taft gown my mom loved would have cost her $900, at Saks it's 4k.

If your mom is easy to fit, Cohoes in Jersey Gardens had a nice selection of gowns, reasonably priced.

If price is no object, Saks or Neiman Marcus have gorgeous gowns.

Ultimately, my mom called a woman she knew who was able to get her the Jovani gown she liked for half of what she would have paid in the store. The line runs very small, and though the gown was about $900 in the store, her size made it $1300, and she got it for $550. (She will have to have it altered too.)

If she does order a dress, she has to go soon. Ordered a few weeks ago, my mom's dress is coming in in May.

My mother found a dress/gown in a bridal magazine that was supposed to be a Nordstrom. They didn't have at at our store but they took the tear sheet, located the dress and had it shipped in 2 sizes for her. It was perfect and Nordstrom was very nice to work with.
