I'm looking for a good orthopedic surgeon for after care for my broken leg (ski accident).

Any recomendations? My insurance is listing the following as in network.

Decter, Edward
Cuomo, Thomas
Helbig, Thomas
Weiss, Andrew
Dryer, Joseph
Errico, Thomas
Liggio, Frank
Naseef, George
Botwin, Clifford
Innela, Robert
Fox, Ross

idealy I want somebody who has all the equipment in the office, so that I won't have to make a separate appointment for every x-ray.

Berlin has everything in his suite of offices. But he isn't on your list. He's in South Orange. Ross and Helbig are good. Decter is good but you usually have to wait a little in his office. He has PT people there as well.

Liggio is pediatrics only. Wonderfully soft spoken for a surgeon. Great with kids and their bones.

When my son broke his arm we went to Dr. Decter. Very knowledgeable and more than competent. He had two very serious breaks and his arm is great.

My family has had countless orthopedic surgeries and go nowhere except the Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC. Dr. Mark Figgi is fantastic. When my father needed two knee replacements, comparing NJ doctors experiences of 3 or 4 replacements a year to Dr. Figgi's 3 or 4 replacements a day, the decision was easy. Recovery at HSS is quicker as well- all the patients there are there for similar reasons and are highly motivated to regain their strength.

We went to Whistler end of January. After skiing double diamonds for three days I hit a bad hole on a blue cat trail and somehow broke my fibius (sp?) just above my right ankle. It's a really clean break so I'm not expecting to have any surgery, I just need a doctor to tell me when I can get rid of the cast, make sure nothing unexpected happened and what to do for physical therapy.

From everything posted, Decter and Helbig sound pretty good to me.

I will probably get shot for this, but if you need a decent bedside manner....Decter is not the way to go....

BGS What you said about Decter is very true! I didn't want to be the first to say that. Also, I know theHospital For Special Surgery is excellent! If you can find a doctor on your plan I'd go there. I know more then a half dozen people who have gone there.

Helbig is the best! I broke my wrist a year ago this month & then broke my foot in September (don't ask) & saw Dr. Helbig for both injuries. His staff is also wonderful. I never waited more than 15 minutes beyond my appointment to be seen. Plus, he's conveniently located in So. Orange on the opposite side of the street as the Caribbean restaurant (down from Cryan's) where there's usually on street parking. I highly recommend him.

Thomas Helbig, though not exactly a nice person to his patients (he called me a jerk the morning after back surgery and a very painful night), is an excellent spinal surgeon. If he does legs, he's your man.

I like Dr. Howard Blank in Millburn. (I know you didn't list him, but I wasn't sure if you checked w/your ins. for Millburn docs.) Has xray equipment in office and he and his staff are very personable.

Dr William Oppenheimer in Springfield treated me when I broke my leg several years ago. He was great. His offices have Xray facilities and also have a physical therapy office for post recivery therapy. He is also the Orth. for the NJ Devils along with his partner. His office is next to Scotti's restaurant on Morris Ave.

Dr. Cuomo is great. My mom used him for surgery for knee tear. I went to him when I had some slight knee problems and when I broke my coccic (sp?) bone. He really put me at ease.

Check your possible MD's here -- click on legal actions (NJ AG's site) --

http://12.150.185.184/dca/index.jsp

Several others (Dector, Weiss) had some legal actions -- but this guy has more than the others listed for malpractice awards --

Dryer, Joseph W, M.D.

2 26-Mar-02 Settlement $125,000.00
