Does anyone here know JTA personally? Has she gone
to the hospital and if so how is she? Is there any place to send a card (I assume she'd be out of reach email-wise).

That infection sounded totally out of hand and I worry that she seemed to take it too lightly.

Scully,
I was wondering the same thing. Hope she got treatment. When they start talking IV antibiotics it usually means the infection is quite serious. Hope she followed our advice.

Just heard from JTA. She is in the ER. Waiting. And apparently well enough to keep up with her emails. ;-)

Joan, she hasn't offered any information, just that she was waiting. But she's checking her emails, so that's always a good sign.

JTA just called from the ER. She's being infused with antibiotics, they might keep her over night.

Scully, J says she tried but wasn't able to reach you on your cell, and did you get her text message?

I hope they keep her until they are sure the infection is gone.

JTA, if you are reading this, hope you feel better soon!

Just heard from her! She's out with a couple of different antibiotics to take for the next 10 days.

Thanks everyone, I was worried when I hadn't heard from her. There are too many horror stories around about ignored infections running amok. There are some major bugs out there!

I missed this also. If there is another thread where this was discussed, can someone post a link?

JTA - I hope you're feeling better!

Hey guys! Thanks for being concerned! I finally escaped from the emergency room! They pumped me with three bags of antibiotics through an IV. I have to take three different antibiotics -
500 mg Keflex (four times a day); 160mg Bactrim (twice a day) and SMX (whatever that is) (twice a day) for the next ten days. I'm supposed to see my regular doctor on Tuesday. The ER doctor said there are no clots but there is a nasty infection, Like DUH! I thought about taking a before and after picture to post, but didn't want to gross people out.

To tell the truth, I almost didn't bother to go to the ER. Thought I could convince some Infectious Disease Doctor to take care of it in their office. Called three they all said NO we can't (won't) treat you! Go to the
Eemergency Room!

I guess I didn't realize how serious this could be because the hospital told me I was very lucky I didn't get a clot or a Staf Infection or Septus (sp) from it. I'm surprised because there is already a difference from 12 hours ago. But I am very tired! My sister is surprised I plan to go to sleep as soon as I post this.

The hospital staff thought it was funny I was sending email from my cellphone! I finally just called LAS to let her know what was happening.

Thanks again. All of you were right about how serious it was. I tend to blow things off thinking I'll be okay. I think that's why my doctors know when I do finally call them I am really sick. Even then, I sometimes need a kick in the head to get me to go!

PS Sorry for making you all worry. I tried to figure out how to get to MOL from my cell; but it only lets me do email or send instant messages. I could only send very short emails for some reason.

Get well quickly, JTA!

(And consider eating a lot of yogurt for the next few weeks to help your body get back some good bacteria. Stonyfield brand is a really good one.)

JTA,

You did the right thing. Brava!

Now do the right thing and post those pictures. We want to see what caused this emergency, so others know what to look out for.

Thanks, and glad you feel better.

Glad to hear you are doing better.

I wonder if a (now banned & blocked) MOL poster would have had a problem with your emailing from the ER :-)

JTA:

There is every reason why you should feel tired and relieved that the infection is finally being treated. Get all the rest you need, take your meds, and give us progress reports on your recovery when you feel up to it.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

The hospital follwed up this afternoon with a phone call. When I told them how stupid I felt going to the ER the woman asked if a staff member said something to make me feel that way. I explained it was just me thinking it was dumb to go to the ER for a silly sore. I told her how I felt my doctor was over reacting. I still feel silly, but at least my leg looks better then it did.
