I'm thinking about joining a gym and am not really familiar with what is available around here. I usually just take yoga classes, but have not beeen able to get there enough based on schedule. Both of the above places seem to have a lot of classes for yoga, spinning, etc. Does anyone have an opinion of either one, good or bad. What is the childcare like? Also, are they crazy expensive? Thanks in advance! |

I belong to Can-do. They have a huge selection of great classes and free babysitting. That's why I chose them over Motion, which has a better location. Can-Do was $79/month when I joined. I think Motion is about the same. Visit both and see what you think. Babysitting is fine. Older kids often go play run-around games in a big karate studio. Little ones color and (of course) watch TV. I wouldn't bring my daughter every day, but I'm okay with it once or twice a week. I always bring her with a friend. Also, add the the cost the extra $$ a day you spend at Panera on cookies and coffee!! |

Motion is $79 a month now, and the babysitting is extra. I love the location, that is key for me. Can-do is a great facility, but just to far for me. |

I really like Motion and have been going there for over a year. It's super clean, the staff is pretty nice and the location is key. I just figured i would never actually go to Can-Do, even though I do hear good things about it. |

You might also look at other options such as the Summit Y, JCC in W. Orange, Connection (ex YWCA) in Summit. Many have yoga and other exercise classes, pools, equipment, activities for kids. Check out some of the recent threads on these topics. Depends on what you need...and, your budget. |

New York Sports has branches in Springfield, Livingston, West Caldwell and of course in NYC. Depending on your membership type, you can use them all. They have childcare and classes; the one in Livingston has a pool. The website (NYSC.com) has a free one-week membership offer. |

I love CanDO, it is much larger than Motion. I've never done the yoga, but the BodyPump class is wonderful. I also like the third floor cardio- I can get on a treadmill where only a few people can see me huffing and puffing. I've been a member for two years and have no complaints. The shake bar is great for when you need a protein boost before heading to Kings/ShopRite. |

I'd also suggest NYSC. I go to the one in Livingston and take their strength classes, they offer a few yoga classes, pilates (mat-based and machine, but you have to pay extra for the machine classes), lots of spinning, and tons of cardio classes, also. It's like $70/month, but if you're taking advantage of the group classes it's more than worth it, in my opinion. I know they have babysitting, but I don't know if that's included in the membership or not as I do not have children. Check the website as ril mentioned, you can also find class schedules there for individual gyms. |

I just joined the NYSC recently. I use both the NYC locations (the one at 36th and Madison) at lunchtime during the week and the one in Livingston on weekends. This city/suburban link plus the pool at Liv is mainly why I chose NYSC. I haven't brought my kids in for babysitting, but the babysitting room is MUCH larger than it is at Motion (I used to be a member there, and that tiny room would get packed with kids). The kids can actually run around at Liv's babysitting room. I like it a lot so far. Plus they have family swim on Sundays, and kids' swimming lessons throughout the week. |
