I *think* you are referring to Preferred Pet Care. Last I heard they are expanding and opening a new center here in Maplewood. Somewhere back off Burnett between a couple of those old warehouses. |

Is it just me, or does anyone else find it disgusting that Preferred Pet Care (at least the W.Orange one) takes packs of dogs to parks in Maplewood to do their thing? This happens often at Orchard Park on DeHart St. where the park is geared toward younger children/toddlers. Thank goodness for S.Orange's ordinance against dogs in people parks - it makes for much more pleasant picnics on the grass! (Although I DO think it would be very very nice if there were a doggie park for the dogs as well!!) |

I didn't know PPCare did that, Pdg. How many dogs do they take at a time? |

There is an ordinance in SO? I didn't know that I've walked my dog in SO parks before, last time I forgot the leash and the police rolled buy and didn't say a thing. I also picked up other dog's business. |

When my daughter was one, she also picked up someone's dog's business. (Thus my little rant.) I've seen PPC do this many times with about 5-6 dogs all on a leash. I then found out that Maplewood doesn't have an ordinance which so surprised me. I don't hate dogs at all, but where little kids play and fall and sometimes eat things they shouldn't -- it just doesn't seem right! Anyway, I think all the S.O parks have posted signs saying that dogs aren't allowed, which is how I knew about the rule. Of course, from my experience, the SOPD doesn't seem inclined to ticket anyone except those who dare to stop to pick up/drop off someone near the train station doors! (I got a juicy ticket for dropping off my 50 yo sister who had hip replacement 8 months prior.) |

Pdg... I played with playdough when I was little! You should let your little girl try it instead of dog turds! |

She's almost 7 now, so it didn't kill her (I, however, almost died...) |

just think pdg...if they have a closer day care center, maybe they won't have to walk the dogs to the park. not sure exactly where you want the dogs to poop, but my dog poops in the park almost every day. I clean it up, end of story. the day they make dogs that don't poop is the day i get a second dog! |

I'm pretty sure all of the dog walking services are dilligent at picking up after their dogs. There are many individuals though who either don't know the law or for some reason think they are above it. Not sure why you would get a dog if you are not willing to clean up after it. I change my kid's diaper too, and it can be pretty gross! Millburn also has a no dogs policy in I think every township park (the reservation is county so dogs are allowed). I do see dogs on occasion though as some people either don't know or ignore the rule. I disagree with the rule, but follow it none the less. My kids "help" me pick up the poop in the back yard by pointing it out to me and saying "mommy more yucky poopy". |

Maplewood very definitely has an ordinance about animal waste: Chapter 113: DOGS, CATS AND OTHER ANIMALS Township of Maplewood, NJ ARTICLE II Licensing of and Regulations for Dogs [Adopted 12-3-1974 by Ord. No. 1438 as Ch. V of the 1974 Revised General Ordinances] § 113-12. Rules and regulations of conduct. No person shall own, keep or harbor a dog in the township except in compliance with the provisions of this Article and the following regulations: * * * H. No person owning, keeping, harboring, walking or in charge of any dog shall cause, suffer, permit or allow such dog to soil, defile or defecate on any common thoroughfare, street, sidewalk, passageway, road, bypath, play area, park or place where people congregate or walk, or upon any public property whatsoever or upon any private property without the permission of the owner of the private property in the last instance. When the dog shall defecate on the areas aforesaid, it shall not be considered a violation of this Article if, and only if, the person owning or in charge or control shall immediately remove and dispose of all feces thus deposited in a sanitary manner. The provisions of this section shall not apply to blind persons who may use dogs as guides. [Added 6-15-1976 by Ord. No. 1465; amended 9-21-1982 by Ord. No. 1616]

yes, berkeley, preferred pet care is moving from west orange to rutgers street south of springfield ave. they probably won't be there for a year. but it's great news for us that board our dogs with PPC. as for the pups in the park, jeezuz...where, oh where are our little dogs to go? the next time you have a picnic, remember all the squirrels, rats, etc. that are eating your crumbs and then doing THEIR business...AND noone is picking it up. |

I agree with Oldstone. When I clean up after my dog, I probably get 99.9% of the icky stuff. If you're worried about the remainder, were you hoping to lick the grass safely? I've got news for you: it never was safe, and I'm not making it worse. However, you might make the case that professional dog walkers have a greater chance of leaving excessively large quantities. I have no idea if there's any merit to that, and I'm not claiming it. In fact, I doubt it.

OK, OK! I guess the answer is most of you do not find it disgusting that a W.Orange pet care company brings the dogs in its care to Maplewood parks to relieve themselves! (Sorry I asked, it was a weak moment.) Where should doggies poop? - In an ideal world, I completely agree with an old thread full of support for local dog park(s)! Every town should have at least one, very well maintained one! Where to poop in the current reality? I see people walking and I think it's called "curbing" their pets every day. They seem to be enjoying the stroll with the occasional stoop. Do we have a dog, not yet, but when the almost 7 y.o. turns 7, we will likely be getting a puppy. So - you all may see me (b/c yes I realize it will be MY pupply in all areas but name) posting at some point this summer that I have taken my daughter's pup park pooping! |

PPC are dog walkers who walk a lot of dogs in the MSO area. I'm guessing the dogs they are walking are taken from their homes, walked locally, and returned to their homes. I doubt they bring the dogs from the West Orange facility out here. |

pdg, just so you don't think ppc is unloading west orange's dog poop in maplewood...they have a lot of clients here and they bring maplewood dogs there, not west orange dogs. in fact, because i am in the millburn end of town my dog is trucked into millburn usually for his walks. just fyi. |

I also need to comment that the scenario is a bit skewed. When PPCare walks dogs it's from the owners' homes. They aren't bringing dogs from WO to Maplewood. These are most likely Maplewood dogs out for their daily stroll. |
