... a full sized futon sofa, that I didn't realize was so important to her until the new owner's came to pick it up. What was I thinking? I have ordered her a three-tiered climbing post, and a new assortment of toys. Now I need need a cat bed in which my purring little girl can snuggle in case she doesn't like the three-tiered climbing post or any furniture or rugs already in the house. She likes to be squished and squashed, and sometimes she sleeps with her brother. Her vet seems to believe she has an issue with weight (too much supposedly) but she can jump and climb to the right spot providing it doesn't take too much exertion. I'm not finding any inspiration online, and these are the only two options that don't seem utterly boring:
Does anyone have a to-die-for-cat-bed? Do you think I should buy a new futon for her? |

The one guarantee (and you know this) is that she will turn her nose at anything you purchase specifically for her. You & she have different definitions of "boring". The bed on the left is one that we have; we'd bought it when we fostered a JAC dog. He didn't get to use it but Sunny claimed it as hers. It is indeed nice and snuggly. But, make sure that you purchase it for something else. Perhaps a present for someone else's cat? Otherwise, she won't want it. |

I am sure a cat bed will suffice. your cats are far more adaptable than you give them credit for.... of course, I know you just like to spoil them silly. the bean bag chair looks positively yummy, IMO |

My cat, when she wasn't sleeping in my bed, was fond of a cardboard box with an old wool blanket in it. |

Santa got faux-shearling cat beds for my two cats a couple of years ago. The first year - the cats ADORED the beds. Wouldn't leave them. They were in Cat Heaven. Once the weather started getting warmer, they stopped using them. And nobody has touched them since. I am now down to one cat. If you want one or both of the beds, let me know and it's yours. I'll bet that now that I've offered both, Gracie will take a sudden interest in them ...

(btw the beds I have are like a hybrid between the two you posted - soft pillowy sides, though not as pillowy as the one on the left, with a shearling pad insert) |

Ah, yes, the box. She loved her box for years until her brother pooped goo in it. I just feel so guilty about this and I know spending money always makes things better... CLK, do you think she might actually adapt to someone else's (used) bed? It might be fun to try. Do you think Gracie would be into attempting a trial loan of the bed in exchange for a can of Kookamunga Eight-in-One Catnip Treats? Whatever it is, G'tree is right, I will pretend it is for someone else. That's why I'm wondering if CLK's bed might work. It's just crazy enough... |

las, if your cat doesn't like it - throw it out. It's just wasting space here. No need for any catnip treats. :-) |

There is a very cute cat bed pattern in the "Stitch N'Bitch" book, should you wish to spend both money & time on a new bed...it actually looks pretty cute.

A friend found a climbing/clawing post with a bed on the top (sort of a scooped out thingy)> It was placed near a window, and the kitty loves to scratch at the base and then climb into the bed and look out the window. DOn't know where they got it but if you are interested I'll ask! |

Pippi - is someone a Steely Dan fan? Las - KOOKAMUNGA cat treats? Do you think they ill make my furball stop biting? I have found that the thing I would least like my cat to sleep on is the place the cat prefers to sleep on. For years, the late George would find a black wool coat anywhere and make it his own. Maybe get a black beanbag (looked so comfy!) and tell Syd that she can't sleep there. That oughta work. |

My cats LOVE their tiered cat tree. I never would have bought one for fear that they wouldn't use it, but somebody once posted on MOL that they were moving back to NYC and had a cat tree to give away. At one time we had a cat bed like the one shown on the right (in the first post) and it was used only for a few weeks and only when we had just moved from a small apartment into our house. One of our cats has a "bed" comprised of a stack of folded up old towels. Last winter I noticed that she was sleeping on the wood floor near a radiator so I put an old towel in that spot. She continued to sleep there even in the summer and I think that right now her bed is three or four towels high. I call her the princess from the Princess and Pea. |

Thanks, LibraryLady, but we've got a crows nest perch for my cat Ernie. He likes the vantage point from which to guard his palace. Sydney (whose bed I dumped) likes to bake and be squished. Pippi, the bed is from Doctors Foster & Smith. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=3360&N=2002+113876 Do you think you'll get it? Let me know if you decide to order, then maybe I will, too. Ess, the treats won't make her stop biting, but I'll give you a can of Kookamunga anyway. Ernie still bites, although he has gotten a bit better over the years (he's 8) he still looses all control when he gets riled up. |

It's amazing what we'll do for them, isn't it? All of the radiators upstairs have towels on them for feline sleeping/bird watching comfort. My Gracie is particularly fond of the cardboard boxes and paper packing that deliveries from my company e-store come in. So, I let this big cardboard box stuffed with paper sit in my pristine house for weeks on end. At some point, she will pull out the packing paper (usually a 5 or 6 foot long strip) and spread it out in the dining room. We just walk around it. |

I do the same thing! That's why I shop online - not for the convenience, but for the weeks of kitty fun. And to think they sleep 22 hours a day... |

Las We have a cat bed for Miracle that she never uses. You're welcome to it if you want it. She'd rather sleep on the rocking chair in our living room, or the box cover on my bed. Oh, and sometimes she'll sleep in aq laundry basket. During the day she likes to sleep on my cedar chest by the window, the window over looking the back yard watching the birds at the birdfeeder, or the rocking chair in the living room. She also likes to sleep on the shelf above my desk, letting her tail hang down in my way. |

Thanks to the generosity of CLK's Gracie, my Sydney is now the proud owner of a yummy faux shearling bed. She's so excited - you should hear her purring her little heart out. (Note: Syd is in the second photo, resting in her All-Clad Grill Pan box.)
I'm sure she'll grow to love it! Thank you Gracie and CLK! |
