We have a new garage door that we can't use and we're looking to unload it.

Our contractor bought the wrong size (8x7) from Home Depot and never gave us the receipt. He is no longer working on the project but HD won't let us return it without proof of purchase.

It's a nice, white steel door with leaded glass windows; priced around $1500 at HD.

I posted it in the classifieds but there's no picture, so not sure if anyone's seen it there.

It's already a loss for us; we'd like to sell it but we're taking ALL offers. Frankly, my husband almost put it in the dumpster a week ago.

Anyone interested? Or anyone know where I might sell / give this away?

Try craigslist and if that doesn't work then stick it on eBay. The other option is to call local contractors and see if any of them are looking for a bargain on a garage door.

If he bought the wrong size I would make the contractor eat the cost of the door. If he refuses tell him you'll take him to Small Claims Court. Who knows you might end up on Judge Judy...

The contractor disappeared off the face of the earth.
We already tried to track him down and failed, but that's another thread altogether...

Sounds like the creep who installed our central air five years ago. Did you pay him by check or credit card? If so, there is a way to track him down. It might take a few phone calls though. Did he work on his own, or through a store? Is he local? If he is please let the rest of us know who he is so we don't use him

Could you donate it to Habitat for Humanity and take the tax deduction? They usually have projects going on in Essex County.

Ditto cody. In fact, check out Arts & Entertainment, there is a thread there (Battle of the Basement Bands). Maybe someone there can point you in the right charitable direction.

That's a great idea! Another thought. How long ago was the door bought? Do you rember the date? If you put it on a credit card call them explain the situation and ask for a copy of the receipt.
