Art posted this in the new blog area. But I'm not sure too many of us know the new area even exists. I know until this morning, I didn't! Thought I'd repost it over here! This is a test of the Pancake Broadcast System… We are looking for volunteers to join the “Pancakes for Progress” program. Volunteers should be civic minded residents interested in raising funds for a variety of different local charitable causes, and be willing to give up a Saturday morning once a month. Anyone interested in getting involved can reply to Art by e-mail at LesSaisons@comcast.net.

"What charitable causes?" The idea is to get at least a dozen volunteers interested in promoting a pancake breakfast in town once a month and charging $10 a person. All the money collected would go to some worthy cause or person in town. I suggest a committee will be needed to locate the various causes each month, and a majority vote of the members as to who gets the money. The monthly goal would be to get about a hundred people a month to attend the breakfast and raise a $1,000 donation... HTTA is willing to make their place available on Saturday mornings once a month. It seats about 50, and with 4 one hour sittings, 8AM, 9AM, 10AM, and 11AM, we should do fairly well. The menu of course would be pancakes, coffee, milk, and juice, plus continuous live entertainment. The cause would be announced a month in advance so the person or group could advertise the event. The idea is to create a source of funds for those people or projects in our community that always seem to come up a little short. Other than our various service clubs in town, there's no where else for these people to turn to. I'm sure we'll hear from a variety of people and organizations on a regular basis. We are open for more suggestions.

Speaking of fundraising, isn't it overdue for us to hear about the second annual Maplewood Mayor's ball? He said he wanted to do it every year, with a different cause as the recipient. Last year, the recipient was CHS.
