Call the Maplewood Recreation Dept. and they have the form. They have different prices (with $$$ savings applied the earlier you sign up). If you sign up before the end of this month, the family membership is about $280 and as it gets closer to the Summer opening, the price goes up...so sign up early if you can. |

what does it cost if you don't have a membership, but just want to pay to get in for the day? |

Lee- You cannot pay by the day. The only way you can go to the pool if you are not a member is if a member brings you as a guest. Then it is $5.00 per guest and the member has to be there with you. It sounds harsh I am sure to a newcomer, but our pool is very well maintained with very few accidents and it is a beautiful environment with the best snack bar in the state!!!!! |

When we first moved here there was no provision for guests at all. The guest pass arrangement was a welcome improvement. I'm not sure I think that offering daily entrances would be a good idea. It is already seriously crowded in there on the hottest days of the summer and that would probably be even worse.

I agree sac...if we became a public pool I cannot even imagine how crowd control would work with the rules and so forth that Maplewoodians and their guests must know...It is a town pool and should stay that way with guest privileges when room permits IMHO.

A possible compromise might be some sort of trial membership, if the issue is "try before you buy." Of course, this should still only be available to residents of the town who could legitimately opt for a real membership after the trial period. Something for the pool committee to think about. (But not critical to me, so I don't plan to lobby for it.) |

I also think it would be a good idea to be able to pay for partial memberships - 1 month passes for maplewood residents. i am planning to go away for 1-2 month this summer, but would like to enjoy the pool for the rest of the summer. But summers are so short here that doesn't seem worth it to me to buy the yearly membership just to go to the pool for a month or so. But if I could, a monthly pass would be wonderful. |

I suspect that one month passes would cost almost as much as the current membership and if too many people took them, likely the full membership cost would go up. Any way you look at it, they have to cover the costs of the pool and, face it, a lot of people do take vacations for a good chunk of the summer. Also, our membership fee is less than half that of many comparable town facilities. (South Orange doesn't count because theirs is endowed somehow, so it really isn't the same situation and they don't have to cover all of the costs with the ID fees.) |

Sac is correct. Pool budget is covered by the membership fees. If we start giving people daily/monthly passes this would have a negative affect on fees, thus driving up costs for those who get full summer passes. The fee is very reasonable (only $245 for an entire family - if you pay by 3/15) and well worth it. |

It's on Boyden Avenue between Elmwood Avenue and Springfield Avenue (in between the Fire Station and Winchester Gardens.) |
