I have a family member coming to town for a few weeks (2 or 3) and don't have room to put them up in our house. Does any know of cheap housing somewhat local to us? A not horrific motel would be fine, but an empty room in someone's house would be even better. Money is tight so a cheap alternative would be great. Ideas???

C'mon Alley...put it on your credit card. Pony up & don't be so cheap about increasing debt. You want us taxpayers to spend money on "art" for you, but you won't splurge for a nice & safe place to stay for a FAMILY MEMBER. Shameful.

My parents have stayed at the Holiday Inn on Rt 22 several times and have always enjoyed their stay. It's not dirt cheap (and who would want it to be?) but mid-priced. I've also heard nice things about The Westminister on Rt 10.

There's a courtyad marriot on rte 10 in Hanover that we stayed at. It was fine. If you get it for a good price online. I know that's prob not ideal for a few WEEKS, but thought I'd offer as decent lodging. What about open dorm rooms at Seton Hall that maybe they rent out???

There is a B&B on the main street in Chatham which worked nicely for friends of ours. It's a short walk to coffee shops, etc., and Chatham is a nice place to be.

If you check Travelocity, Orbitz, and Kayak.com, you could probably get good deals on the Hampton Inns and Marriott Courtyards that are "relatively" close.

My parents stayed at the Holiday Inn Route 22 several years ago. The price was good, and they had just renovated it, it was very nice.

Check with Art C. He might be able to do something for you. Chances are he's at Hers2theArts. Also check with AAA for discounts. As well as the Entertainment Book, and American Express.

MHD, please keep the venom contained to appropriate discussions. Your sculpture comments are not appropriate or desired in this thread. Unless you want other people harrassing you in all of your other threads. I understand that it feels like war to you sometimes, and all is fair in love and war, but we use MOL for lots of different things. I posted to NEED HELP and your comments aren't HELPFUL.

Thanks JTA, I will look into it.

I know it is an odd request everyone, and I admit I didn't provide all of the specifics to the situation, but I can assure you that the housing is for someone that doesn't have alot of money to spend right now and feels comfortable in a cut-rate motel provided its clean and safe. This person is currently staying in someone's home in Florida, but needs temporary housing for 2 weeks or so up here in NJ.

(Case - you ought to check out Alleygater's posts in the SO Tony Smith Sculpture thread! Absolutely scathing! But, I agree MHD shouldn't stalk her in this thread!)

Pdg: I didn't get the sense that what I wrote was scathing. I called people uneducated and unfit to have an opinion on something they didn't know much about. But I even apologized for that.

Alley, below are all separate quotes from your posts over the past week or so. I don't think I'm the only one who thinks you become very nasty when it comes to the Tony Smith Sculpture.

"Are you a mental midget?"

"...are the same whiny bitches complaining about this sculpture."

"And I'm sorry but just because you don't know an artist does NOT mean they aren't well known, it means that you don't know •••• about art. Educate yourself. "

"People who know nothing or care nothing of art should shut up. I'm sorry but you anti-art work people are so culturally illiterate it is sad beyond belief. All you care about it saving a few pennies and care about little or nothing else. Short-sighted, little minded people. Sad, just sad."

"Pdg, I am a Maplewood resident, and I still think you are all small minded and unprepared to talk knowledgably about art let alone to make a forward thinking decision to honor someone of high stature that came from your community. Just because I come from another town, I can't point my finger at you and unmask the ridulousness of your words and actions?"

"Over your face?" (You know why this was nasty - I won't post the link to the Kiki Smith artwork again.)

To your credit, it seems you calmed down and became more civil in your most recent posts. I guess that came after you sorta apologized to JTA.

Whatever.

Regarding cheap housing. We stayed for a week once at the Turtleback Inn. I wouldn't want to vacation there, but it was fine for our purposes.

MHD and Pdg-
Come on guys (or women) play fair. Let's keep our TS debate in the South Orange Topic. K?

Alley- I have an Entertainment Book with a number of hotels and motels in the area at a discounted price. I could scan the information and email it to you if you want.

Pdg: I can apologize to you too. I'm feeling bad now. I can get pretty firey at times but that thread really pushed my buttons (as you can see). I think I have been abundantly clear that I don't appreciate people poo-pooing art that they don't know much about. I really tried to be articulate (if not occassionally mean spirited) and well reasoned.

But I'm sorry I can't apologize for that "over your face" line. I thought that was hilarious.
