I've received an e-mail from a fellow English chap whom is currently negotiating an expat package with his company to open an office in NYC - he's thinking of moving to this area. He asked about how much it would cost to join a Country Club as he likes to play golf. He's hoping that his company might pick up the tab if there are corporate memberships in US country clubs, but in case they don't he was wondering what the likely costs might be? I'm aware that there will be a membership joining fee, but of course there will be monthly dues and I guess a quarterly minimum F & B charge? I don't think he will have much luck - don't you have to know current members to propose and second your membership application? Do any clubs have corporate memberships? I didn't bother to find out when me moved here as I was under the impression that there are long wait-lists to join and we didn't know anyone to propose us and we don't play golf properly anyway - but I did hear that the fees are steep and that they can be elitist/exclusive. The only ones I can think of with golf courses are the Maplewood CC, the Canoe Brook CC and the Baltusrol golf club |

Essex , Essex Fells , Rock Spring , these are just a few in our area ,there are many more . Figure 30-40k up , 5k annually $500.00 monthly plus greens fees. This is on the lower end of the spectrum . The new clubs in Jersey City & Bayonne are 400k & 150k respectivly . Coming from England these numbers should be no surprize . The more important ? is which one he will be comfortable @ , once that is established , he would then need someone to put him up for membership , then be approved by the board. |

Wow - I can't believe how expensive it is to join those clubs! It's far cheaper to go to the 18 hole East Orange golf course in Short Hills for approx $50 per round...ok you don't get the 'ambience' of an upscale club but those joining fees are ridiculous! |

I think there's a corporate club out route 78 somewhere. Don't recall the name but maybe someone else will. |

ffof -- its off of exit 26 -- Fiddlers Elbow -- beautiful place. former employer the big wigs had memberships -- so we were encouraged to have offsites, lunches, etc there. never played golf there, though. Pete |

Fairmount Country Club in Chatham Township costs about five thousand to join initially and about two thousand a year to maintain. My parents used to belong and my brother, sister and I saw it as a big waste of money. Yes, much cheaper to pay as you go unless you golf all the time and want the ambience. Baltusrol in Springfield is way more expensive than Fairmount. |
