In the middle of an incredibly busy evening, a young guy rang our bell offering a discount card in support of Columbia's lacrosse team. It was cheap and I bit after quickly reviewing SOMA's supporting merchants, coming from another area where lacrosse is "the sport".

When things quieted, I looked at the card which, on the front, says "Valid thru 4/07"; on the back it says "Valid thru 9/06".

Now, I start to wonder. I find that the web site listed is under construction. The 800 phone number asks you to leave a message...

I've probably just been scammed but, if anyone's reading who can confirm this is a legitimate fundraiser, I'd be happy to hear it. Otherwise, to everyone else, look more closely, ask more questions, etc.

Try posting this on Education. You are more apt to find lacrosse parents on that thread who can tell you whether this was a legitimate fund raiser or not.

Head coach is Dave Brothers. Try emailing him at dbrother@somsd.k12.nj.us for some more info.

Thx, Suzanne. Will do. That's the kind of connection I'd hoped to find to verify this. I'll also post essence of Dave Brothers' response, should I get one.

His last name is Brothers not Brother, maybe you mis-spelled his name in the email.

He was one year ahead of of me at MMS and CHS.

It should be "dbrother" ... what about it was undeliverable... was it because it exceeded the quota?

Dave Brothers is not an email sort of guy. I think his mailbox is usually over the limit, or at least that was my experience a couple of years ago.

My recollection from Little K's four years of lacrosse at CHS was that they did fund raisers using these cards. The soccer team did the same thing. I tend to doubt this was a scam.

I second Ffof's suggestion about contacting Dave Curtin if this is really a big deal to you.

Just spoke with my son and he has confirmed that the team is seling the cards again this year. I don't know about the conflicting dates but it's probably just an oversight on the printer. They probably used last year's card as template and forgot to change the date on the back.

I was in the High School on Thursday to add some money to my childrens lunch accounts and a very polite young man with a LAX stick in hand asked if I would be intrested in buying one of these cards to support their team... he explained what the benefits of the card were briefly. I told him that he had a customer!!! He said "I do?" He was very happy and I then noticed many of the boys from the LAX team asking other adults in the cafeteria to buy ......I was happy to do so!!!! your discount card IS valid...despite the confusing dates:-)It looks like it will pay for itself quickly for me and then some! lol Good luck on the fundraising guys!
