...so as much as we *love* the original partner in the local ped group, the new partner -- well, is just the pits. add to that the "downsizing" (only 2 regular MDs now) -- can't get any evening hours or Saturday hours for a MONTH! (and my kid has a hand injury that I'd like seen). Time for a new, larger ped group -- for a 10 year old boy. MD with some humor and character would be good (and Dad appreciates that, too!). Dr. Gruenwald, et al. on Millburn Ave in Millburn. Takes Aetna. Nights and weekends always available. (They especially like it when dads bring the kids.) Unless of course that's who you've been using. |

I took my two year old to Dr. Commandatore (Gruenwald, et al.) for a physical, and I doubt she could have picked me out of a lineup five minutes later. Very harried, disinterested, seemed to be phoning it in. And there was only ONE person waiting in the waiting room, so what's the hurry? I was surprised, as she was specifically recommended by a friend. Are there ANY pediatricians left with any kind of caring bedside manner or am I having a Norman Rockwell fantasy moment? |

In Millburn near Commandatore et al is Dr. Sandy Lowenthal. She's a great lady and has 2 young kids of her own. (She is in a solo practice so sometimes you do have other doctors covering for her.) I should say that she is a friend of mine and my 6 1/2 year old won't see her since he's friends w/her son and its "too weird" for him. |

I've taken my daughter to Dr. Alexander (also at Gruenwald et al) and have always had a very good experience. Totally opposite from what wunderdog described with Commandatore -- very friendly and I feel like if I bumped into her on the street she'd still know who we are. She takes her time with visits and writes down what we covered at each checkup (e.g. what immunizations were given, what foods are off limits, height and weight measurements), which makes it easier to share later with the parent who wasn't there (I'm not supposed to actually remember all that stuff in my head, right?). |

We've been extremely happy with Dr. Gruenwald, who was a special ed teacher before becoming a pediatrician. We're not overly impressed with any of his other associates and always request to see Dr. G unless it's an immediate medical issue and he's not working that day. |

Dr. Commandatore has been great when we've seen her. I never have felt rushed. Although to think about it, Gruenwald is our main contact and we typically see Dr. Commandatore when he is out. I suppose that we have seen her (and Dr. Sterio) when we have a real illness. She does take the time to evaluate etc. We typically only get to see Dr. Gruenwald for the routine physicals that I can schedule weeks in advance! He does give parents the greatest sense of "you know when something is wrong" and he has great lively conversations with all of the kids and me. |

We have had great experiences at the Gruenwald practice - esp. with Commandatore. Haven't met two of the newer docs (Detwiler and Miller) but have had nothing but good experiences with the rest of them for five years. And I love love love the nursing staff who will kindly answer every wacked-out-weird-parent-question you can come up with. I don't care if they are humoring me - they indulge my occasional need to worry. |

CJH, isn't Dr. Alexander great? We've been going to her for all our routine visits since Babycat was 2 weeks old, and she's always been kind, attentive, and willing to talk -- and I LOVE the notes she gives you when the visit is over. So helpful! I just love that practice in general, they are so accomodating and organized, the nurses are very helpful on the phone and I've never had a problem getting a same day appointment those times (too many of them, alas!) when Babycat is sick. We've also been happy so far with the care given by Dr's Gruenwald, Commandatore, and Sterio, though Sterio is not the chattiest woman I've ever met. |

"Sterio is not the chattiest woman I've ever met" - very true, but when we've seen her (for same-day sick visits; otherwise, we go to Dr. Gruenwald), she has been right on the money with diagnosis and treatment. |

Yes, Sterio is an excellent diagnostician. With two of my kids, she caught symptoms that seemed unrelated and did so over a period of several visits. Timely diagnosis (in both cases) saved us a lot of stress and illness. |

We use the Drs. Kintiroglou. They are a father-son practice in West Orange, the Atkins Medical building on the corner of Northfield Avenue and Cherry Lane. 973-243-0002. I don't know whether they take Aetna, but they've been wonderful with our 2 year-old son, who they've been seeing since he was born. |

I think Wunderdog must have caught Dr Comandatore on a bad day, because we have always found her to be very good and very patient with us and our kids. We just saw Dr Alexander for the first time today and liked her very much also. We often get Dr Gruenwald for sick visits, and he is probably our favorite overall, but we usually ask for Dr Comandatore for checkups since we have girls who are preteen/teenaged and prefer a female doctor when they have to undress completely. |

I learned long ago that a GP can be just fine for my kids. It's one fewer relationship to forge. I recommend Dr. Orenberg highly. He's our GP.
